DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Enoch enjoyed walking with God,
While here on this earth he trod!
They walked so closely day after day,
'Til God said, "Come home with Me for aye!"
Enoch dared to be different!
Abraham dwelt in Ur of the Chaldees.
He wanted very much his God to please!
God said, "Leave your kin and those who know you,"
"And go to a land which I will show you!"
So, Abraham his God did obey,
And He started on his way!
By and by, Abraham, Sarah, and Lot his nephew,
Came, to Canaan's Land like God said to do!
God prospered them and Abraham was glad!
So, he thanked God for all he had!
Things went quite well 'til their servants began to fight!
Then, Lot left for Sodom and Abraham did right!
Abraham dared to be different!
Moses was in the bulrushes crying,
While in all the land of Egypt Israelites were dying,
Almighty God heard little Moses' pitiful cry,
And sent Pharoah's daughter passing by!
Then, Moses became a part of the household of the king!
And he didn't want for anything!
But, Moses refused "the pleasures of sin for a season!"
He gave it all up for a very good reason!
Moses dared to be different!
Young Samuel was raised in Eli's household
Eli's sons were wicked and bold.
Samuel could have "fallen in with" Eli's boys.
But, early in life he had made God his choice!
Samuel dared to be different
On one mountain side camped the Israelites!
Not a man among them had the courage to fight!
On the other mountain were the Philistines,
With their champion, Goliath! He was wicked and mean.
The only hope the Israelites had,
Was young David, the shepherd lad.
So, David took five smooth stones and a sling in his hand,
And with the help of God, slew the giant of a man!
David dared to be different!
Elijah, the prophet was "tried and true!
He always did what God said to do!
His challenge to the Israelites one day,
Was, "Is it God or Baal?" "What do you say?"
Now, Baal's prophets were Queen Jezebel's own.
And to the natural eye, Elijah stood alone!
But, God gave His lone prophet his heart's desire
When He answered his prayer with consuming fire!
Elijah dared to be different!
The prophet, Jeremiah, God's word did keep!
Each time he prophesied, he would weep!
He predicted the fall of Jerusalem,
According to the word of the Great I Am!
Jeremiah's prophecy proved to be good and sound!
For not one of his words "fell to the ground!"
Jeremiah dared to be different!
True to God's word, Jerusalem fell because of sin!
Later, God told Nehemiah to build it again!
He kept on working! There wasn't time to mess around!
He said, '"The work is too great!”
“I cannot come down!'”
Nehemiah dared to be different!
The old king had Daniel thrown in the lion's den,
Because he valued God's laws more than those of men!
But, God locked the lion's jaws up real tight,
And Daniel slept safely all through the night!
Daniel dared to be different!
One day, the king said "The time is now!'
"Before my idol everyone must bow!"
"Those who don't in the furnace must go!"
Immediately, the trumpets began to blow!
But, the Hebrew children served a "God much higher,"
Who walked with them in the midst of the fire!
With the heat of the fire, their fetters fell,
And they came out of the furnace without a smell!
The three Hebrew children dared to be different!
In the past, God's people have been a witness, Friend!
They have served God right down to the very end!
So, in the age which we are Living,
Even though sometimes we may have misgivings!
We must show the world a guiding light,
And help them discern the wrong from the right!
We must dare to be different!

CHANGES!
Change, the one thing we all are prone to resist,
Often comes about through opportunities missed!
And, there are times when we aren't to blame.
Yet changes happen just the same.
Change is more difficult as we get older it seems.
It is often enough to shatter our dreams.
However, we welcome a change that is for the good,
And seem to appreciate it as we should!
"Winds of change" can sometimes seem ill!
Then, we must pray, "Father if it be Thy will!"
Folks often enjoy a "change of pace,"
Or an opportunity to move to a different place!
Changes in the weather that are often told,
Make some folks too hot and others too cold!
There are changes in fashion every once in a while,
And the way folks dress is enough to make me smile!
Sometimes there are changes in our nation's laws,
Which are for an unjust cause!
Friend, it was a dark day across our land,
When abortion was declared legal,
And performed on demand.
Life is full of changes, you see,
That definitely affect you and me!
But, we have a Saviour who changes no never!
He's the same yesterday, today, and forever!
There is a Scripture I like a lot,
That says the Lord is our God and He changes not!
Friend, I certainly do not feel that it is strange,
To serve a God who does not change!

COME UNTO ME!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
"Come unto me," the Saviour said,
"I will lift your load of care!"
By Me your hungry soul is fed,"
"If you come in humble prayer!"
"Come ye victims of the fall,"
"Each tribe and tongue of Adam's race!"
"I will save you one and all,"
"Through the power of my grace!"
And still His call goes out today,
O'er mountain top and the burning sand.
He is the Truth, the Light, and the Way!
On Jesus you shall forever stand!
Oh, His Second Coming is so near,
And we will hear His victory shout,
When our blessed Lord shall appear,
To take His children out!
Yes, in the twinkling of an eye,
On that grand and glorious day,
He will appear in the Eastern sky,
To catch His waiting bride away!

COME UNTO JESUS
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Friend, are you weary traveling life’s road?
Are you trying alone to carry sin’s load?
Have you slowly sunk into deepest despair,
While wondering to yourself, “Does anybody care?”
Have troubles and trials and constant fear,
Caused your joy to completely disappear?
Are you confused, and do you often find,
Depressing thoughts clouding your mind?
When you lie down on your bed at night,
Do you often wish for the morning light,
Only to find that throughout the day,
Inside you’re feeling the very same way?
Does your trying to “turn over a new leaf,”
Only cause added frustration and grief?
Do you find yourself going to great length,
Defending habits which are sapping your strength?
Do you feel like you’re living “neath a dark cloud?”
Are you desperately lonely even in a crowd?
Do you have questions with no answers in sight?
Is your life full of darkness without any light?
Are you constantly reminded of the sins of your youth?
Have you tried everything in search of the truth?
Do you want to be able to look yourself in the face?
Have you ever heard of God’s amazing grace?
Could I tell you of Someone I have found,
Who can turn your life completely around?
His name is Jesus He's my Saviour and Friend,
He's Someone on whom you can always depend

FROM AGONY TO ECSTASY!
In a dry and barren land,
I found myself one day.
I was unable to stand.
So, I fell on my face to pray.
“Lord, there’s a longing in my soul,”
“Only You can satisfy.”
“So, please come to my rescue,”
“Or I shall surely die.”
Then, I heard His tender voice,
Say, “Come unto me,”
“For a cool drink of water.”
“My child, it is free!”
“With My heavenly manna,”
“Your hungry soul I’ll fill!”
“Just place your soul in my keeping,”
“And bend to My will!”
So, with all that was within me,
I heeded His call!
I said, “Lord, I’ll serve You!”
“I’ll give You my all!”
And since that glorious day,
Through the good times and bad,
I can honestly say,
He’s the best Friend I’ve ever had!

A PAUPER BECOMES A PRINCE!
Shout it from the rooftops!
Tell it all around!
Jesus is the best Friend,
My soul has ever found!
I was lost and dying,
Sinking with no hope.
Satan had me blinded.
All I could do was grope.
Then, Jesus had pity on me,
And threw out “the old lifeline!”
And ever since that wonderful happy day,
Great joy has been mine!
The ragged garments of sin,
That I clutched around me so tight,
Were traded to Jesus,
For this new robe of white!
The heavy fetters fell off,
My hands and my feet!
My heart that was so burdened,
Now has a new beat!
Gone from my soul,
Is that terrible load of sin!
Now I have joy,
And sweet peace within!
The desires I once had,
We’re stricken from my mind!
Now each day new strength
Through the “Joy of the Lord”I find!
At the very moment,
I made Jesus my choice,
Friend, all of Heaven,
Stood to rejoice!
I, who once fed,
On “the corn husks of sin,”
Am now daily provided,
With “sweet manna” within!
Jesus anointed my eyes,
That I might see more clearly,
Truths in His word,
I now hold so dearly!
My whole conversation,
And lifestyle have changed!
My life God has taken,
And completely rearranged!
The old friends I once had,
Know me no longer.
But, now I've a Christian family,
With ties that are stronger!
Yes, I once was destitute,
And had nothing to bring.
However, now through Jesus,
I'm a child of the King!

===========================================================================================
CHRISTIANITY IS NOT A GAME!
I've noticed that everybody,
Who talks the Christian talk,
Doesn't necessarily,
Walk a Christian walk.
No, I'm not judging one little bit.
But, it's a waste of one's time
Being a hypocrite!
Some folks tell you just how much,
They love the Lord!
Then, they go out among the brethren,
Sowing discord.
Ah yes, being a Christian,
Is more than a game!
So, Brother and Sister,
We must have what we claim!
We're commanded by the Lord,
To go to those in need!
We must rescue the perishing,
And the hungry feed!
We are to help the widow and orphan too!
Isn't that what Christ said to do?
Friend, if to Heaven we would enter in,
We must be completely free from sin!
True Christians must led a Godly life,
And promote love and peace,
Instead of strife!
We must do all things in a Spirit of love,
Else we will not be pleasing to God above!
Let us daily strive to do our best,
Or in the final analysis,
We won't "pass the test!"
We must pray for one another,
And help each other out!
Yes, that's what Christianity is all about!
Friend, I'm not naive enough, you know,
To think my church is the only one that will go.
However, we must all follow,
God's word "to the letter,"
Or on Judgment Day,
We will wish we'd done better!

I’M GOING BACK HOME
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Why I left my father’s house,
I can never tell.
There was food aplenty,
And I was treated well!
I wore princely garments!
There were shoes upon my feet!
I held a place of honor!
Life for me was sweet!
Ah, but satan placed within my heart,
A longing to roam.
Then, when I gave into its bidding,
It took me far from home.
Sin’s pleasures for a season,
Were wine, women, and song.
I ate, drank, and was merry.
But, that was not to be for long.
You see, I ran out of money.
So, my so called friends left me behind.
So, I went to the nearest farm,
Employment to find.
The farm’s owner lived in a mansion,
With furnishings so fine.
The only job he could offer me,
Was feeding his hungry swine.
In desperation I accepted his offer,
With a heart full of dread.
I was almost delirious,
As thoughts of home ran through my head.
Did not my father’s servants,
Have plenty to eat,
While I, his youngest son,
Had no shoes upon my feet?
So, I determined to go back to my father,
Saying, “I can no longer be your son.”
“How could you ever forgive me,”
“For the awful things I’ve done?”
“I have so little to offer you.”
“But, what I have I humbly bring.”
“I’m only a lowly pauper,”
“Approaching a great king.”
“I feel so ashamed.”
“So unworthy am I”
“As I kneel in your presence,”
“Please hear my humble cry.”
Then, my father lovingly kissed me,
Saying, “Son, I’ve prayed much on your behalf.”
“My son which was dead,”
“Is now alive!”
“Let’ go kill the fatted calf!”
Now, I’m back where I belong!
I’ve gained my rightful place!
Within my heart there is a song!
It’s called “Amazing Grace!”

COME IN FROM THE COLD!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Come in from Life's storm.
Inside you'll be warm!
You don't have to shiver in the cold!
Come meet the Shepherd of the sheep!
Your soul He will keep,
And you won't ever stray from His fold!
I know you've been abused,
And quite often misused.
But, Jesus is looking for folks like you!
For although your world is torn apart,
He will mend your broken heart,
And make you over anew!
Today is your day!
There's no time for delay.
Listen closely, He's calling your name!
See the smile on Jesus' face,
Once you accept His grace,
You'll never ever be the same!
You see, I was once like you.
I had sinned against God too.
I was miserable as I could be.
Ah, but Jesus said, "Child, I understand!"
So, I gladly took His outstretched hand,
And He wonderfully set me free!

I'M NOT HERE TO STAY!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I'm reminded every day,
That I'm not here to stay.
I'm only a pilgrim passing through.
Like friends and loved ones gone on before,
I'm heading for Heaven's bright shore,
In that beautiful land beyond the blue!
As up life's mountain I slowly climb,
I often have a difficult time.
Sometimes I stumble and almost fall.
However, when the path grows dim,
Jesus lets me lean on Him,
And I'm able to make it after all!
I'm often reminded that each step I make,
And also each breath I take,
Are because of God's wonderful grace!
When I bid this world goodbye,
There's no doubt that I,
Will see my Saviour face to face!
Although my strength is almost gone,
I must travel on,
With my eyes on my eternal goal!
I know at my journey's end,
Jesus, my precious Friend,
Will receive my joyful soul!

WHEN AUTUMN LEAVES BEGIN TO FALL
When Autumn leaves begin to fall,
My heart hears the familiar call,
To that lonely little graveyard on the hill.
So, I'll go there once again,
Because of love for my kin.
And as long as I live I surely will.
Ah, time has made a change in me.
I'm not as spry as I used to be.
One day soon I shall lie neath the cold, cold, ground.
But, I shall not be there for aye!
For come Resurrection Day,
I'll rise up with Gabriel's trumpet sound!
Yes, I may soon be lying still,
In a graveyard on a hill.
But, only my body will be there!
When they place me beneath the sod,
My soul shall fly away to God,
Where I shall dwell in sweet Heaven fair!
You see, I'm just a pilgrim here on this earth,
A nomad by birth,
Seeking a far better land!
I have only one thing on my mind,
And one glorious day I shall find,
That beautiful country built by God's own hand!

Dear readers,
The following poem is directed to all the prodigals,
and especially to those in my family.
We love you so much and want you to come back to the Lord.
WELCOME HOME, DEAR PRODIGAL
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
When you left "the Father's house,"
You were full and fair of face.
But, now as you return,
You are empty and in disgrace!
But, unlike the "elder brother,”
In the parable of the prodigal son,
We welcome you back home ,
Thanking God your wandering is done!
We feared for the safety of your soul,
As you traveled the downward path,
For others who took "the broad road,”
Now face God's eternal wrath!
We prayed for you often,
And our hearts were made to weep.
We asked God to not let you,
Sink in sin too deep.
When you first started straying,
It was so easily done.
What was actually sin,
satan told you was innocent fun.
The bright lights were alluring.
Soon you had lost all your defense.
Then, it seemed that good Holy living,
No longer made any sense.
Ah, ever so slowly,
You lost all the convictions you once had.
Yes, those things that used to prick your heart,
No longer seemed so bad.
"Laying out of church,"
Seemed easier the second time around.
So, without any real direction in life,
You began to "lose ground."
However, you soon found that satan's prison,
Was much worse than before.
Security was much tighter,
With seven demons to guard the door.
You took on worse habits,
Than you had originally given up,And sank into deep despair.
As you tasted sin's bitter cup.
Ah, but one glorious happy day,
A light shined from up above,
Reminding you of life in Father's house,
And His undying love!
As tears of repentance,
Quickly filled your bloodshot eyes,
You said with determination,
"I shall arise!"
Just before it was too late,
You took Christ's extended hand,
And started the long journey,
Back to Father's land!
When you arrived we had a great celebration,
For you had ceased to roam!
Then, we all joined together saying,
"' Dear Prodigal, welcome home!"

The Honeymoon Cottage
Nestled in the heart of the Kentucky hills,
Surrounded by roses and daffodils,
And graced with honeysuckle vines,
Stood a little cabin built long ago,
By folks I was proud to know!
My grandparents chose the spot 'neath the whispering pines!
"It was our honeymoon cottage," Grandpa would say!
"We came straight here on our wedding day,"
"And you know we've been around here ever since!"
The setting was so serene,
"Picture perfect," if you know what I mean,
Right down to the little white picket fence!
Though Grandma was in her seventies she still would sew,
And can the vegetables they could grow,
In the little garden in the clearing at the top of the hill!
Yes, time had made a change in Grandma's face.
But in Grandpa's heart nobody could take her place!
In His eyes she was lovely still!
Grandpa was her gallant knight!
Her face would light up when he came in sight!
Their love grew sweeter with the passing of time!
Yes, Friend it's plain to see if you have love,
That special gift from God above,
You can be happy if you haven't got a dime!
They were married in the church with the tall steeple,
And with Grandpa's and Grandma's people,
There was barely enough room to stand.
The kin folks brought fiddles and five stringed banjos,
Mandolins, guitars, and even dobros!
I'm telling you the music was mighty grand!
No couple was any happier than those two!
The moment they said, "I do,"
Grandpa kissed his bride so tenderly!
"Twas the beginning of a lasting marriage,
And as they sped away in a horse drawn carriage,
They both were as happy as could be!

GOD BLESS THIS DAY!
To have a blessed
We must always pray,
Requesting our daily bread.
If we just ask we shall receive.
But, we must believe.
These are the words Jesus said!
We must not fear or doubt,
Or we will surely do without,
Which would be a terrible shame.
When we go to God in prayer,
The answer is always there,
Through the power of Jesus' name!
Trouble and strife,
Which become the mountains in our life,
Crumble when Jesus draws near!
They shall not stand,
For with the touch of His hand,
He will cause them to disappear!
So, when your back is to the wall,
And you're trying to "stand tall,"
Only a whisper is all it takes!
A true Friend He will be,
So just try and see,
What a difference Jesus makes!

HE IS ALL I NEED!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Day after day,
God supplies my needs!
Hour by hour,
My hungry soul He feeds!
Month after month,
And year after year,
When storms arise,
He delivers me from fear!
God has always been,
There for me!
He moves in wondrous ways,
That I can not see!
He understands,
When I'm feeling blue!
He's a precious friend,
I can always turn to!
When I am sick,
God has the power to heal!
When I need comfort,
His presence is so real!
Even when I need correction,
He applies it with love!
When I need a promise,
His rainbow appears above!
When I need direction,
God is willing to lead,
So, I've found from past experience,
He is all I need!

BEYOND THIS MOUNTAIN
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I ain't never been beyond this here mountain,"
The elderly woman said.
"It's right here I was born, got married,"
“Raised my children,"
"And buried my dead."
Her face had a leathery look,
From too many days in the sun.
I figured only God knew,
How much hard work she'd done!
Each line in her face,
Could tell a story of its own!
Nobody will ever understand,
The heartaches she's known.
As she slowly spoke,
There was a faraway look in her eyes.
But, then she took me completely by surprise,
She said, "What brings you to these here parts, young man?"
Slowly I tried to explain,
I felt it was part of God's plan.
"I'm a preacher, Ma'am," I enthusiastically replied,
Although I felt a little shaky inside!
As I Listened to the antiquated rocking chair squeak,
And waited for my host to continue to speak,
I whispered to God a silent prayer,
Because I knew in my heart He had sent me there!
She finally broke the silence,
In a voice soft and low,
Saying, "I knew you was a comin'!"
"God told me so!"
"Young man, I ain't got much of this world's goods,"
"And I ain't never been beyond these here piney woods."
"Ah, but as a little girl I learned to pray,"
"And Lord knows that's been many a day!"
"God has been with me in times of joy,"
"And also the saddest time of all,"
"
"When we lost our baby boy."
“That youngun was the pride and joy,"
"Of my husband, Will!"
"Now they lie together yonder,"
"'Neath that little grassy hill."
"Will and me had a house full of younguns,
But they all moved away."
"They had a fit when Will died,"
"And I decided to stay."
"But no amount of coaxin',"
"Was goina do any good."
"They's only one way this old lady's,"
"Goina' leave her piney woods!"
Then she said, "Young man,"
"I don't know when I've chattered so,"
"But, I don't see too awful many folks,"
"Around here, you know!"
She said, "I go by Lizzie,"
"But, Elizabeth is my given name,"
"If you called me either one,"
"I guess I'd answer just the same!"
"How long have you been a Christian, Lizzie,"
I said with a smile,
Thinking to myself,
It probably had been quite awhile.
She said, "I'll be ninety years old right soon!'"
"I accepted Jesus on my tenth birthday,"
"The twelfth day of June!"
I thought, "This precious lady has spent eighty years,"
"Serving the Lord!'"
"When she gets up to Heaven,"
"She will surely receive a great reward!"
Lizzie said, "Like I told you before,"
"I was a youngun' back then."
"Ah but, I very well knew the true meaning of sin."
"So, when Jesus came in,"
"And rid my soul of sin and strife,"
"I vowed right then and there,"
"I'd serve Him for the rest of my life!"
"And young man, I am proud to say,"
"My Saviour still dwells in my heart today!"
She said, "My Mammy and Pappy,"
"Never saw the need,"
"For any of us younguns',"
"To go to school and learn to read."
"You know, I made it through life,"
"Without readin' somehow,"
"But, I'd give anything in this world,"
"To learn to read now!"
"You see, my younguns' and other folks,"
"Always read to me,"
"But, now I want to learn to do it myself!"
"Don't you see?"
'"Oh yes, I want to read the Holy Book myself!"
"Would you please fetch that Bible,"
"Down from the shelf?"
I reached up and got a Bible down,
Which was faded with age,
And when I handed it to Lizzie,
She caressed every page!
She said, "I want to read that scripture,”
“Do you know the one I mean?"
"Would you please help me find,”
John chapter three, verse sixteen?"
Then, she handed the Bible back to me,
With her eyes opened wide,
Like a little child opening a gift,
To find out what's inside!
I slowly read, "For God so loved the world,”
“That He gave His only begotten Son,"
And Lizzie hung on to each word,
Until my reading was done!
Then, she said, "Them words are so dear,”
“To this old lady's heart!."
"Tell me, young man when can we start?"
By that time it was getting up in the day,
But, I said, "Let's get started right away!"
Ah, it was a labor of love,
And my heart was stirred,
As Lizzie struggled to recognize,
And pronounce each precious word!
"For God so loved the world,”
“That He gave His only begotten Son."
Time after time we repeated each word,
Until the verse was done!
"That whosoever believeth on Him should not perish,"
"But have everlasting life!"
Ah, this verse had been the means of many,
Escaping a world of sin and strife!
I eagerly visited Lizzie several days each week,
And we were so engrossed in our task,
We hardly took time to speak!
Then, early one morning I knocked on her door,
And when she opened it,
She was as excited as a child once more!
She said, "Hurry up and come in, Dear,"
"I have something I want you to hear!"
Tears filled my eyes as I joyfully heard,
Lizzie reading perfectly each and every word!
Then, she said, "Mercy me,"
"I'd better catch my breath!"
It was then I sensed,
The cold hand of death.
Ah, Lizzie knew well that her life,
Had come to an end,
So, she didn't even struggle,
For death was her friend!
And as the angels came,
To bear away Lizzie's soul,
I smiled knowing,
She had accomplished her goal!

THE OLD TIME PREACHER MAN
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
"Just plant me here in the place of my birth,"
Said the old time preacher man.
"Let my body slowly rejoin the earth."
"'Tis God's unique recycling plan!"
"But, know ye that when all is said and done,"
"My soul will have taken it's flight,"
"And I'll be rejoicing with Jesus, God's Son."
"In that beautiful city of light!"
"For I am the child of a Heavenly King!"
"I've been adopted through God's grace!"
"I'm going where heavenly angels sing,"
"In that wonderful marvelous place!"
"Oh, what is that sounding on my ear?"
"Voices fill the heavenly dome!"
"I now know for certain I can hear,"
"Angels singing, "Child, welcome home!"
"So Friend, don't you weep for me."
"Just remember where I've gone!"
"That Celestial City you too shall see,"
"If you will just journey on!"

GOD'S GALLANT SOLDIER
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
He was changed forever,
After "the encounter on the Damascus Road!"
He became a new creature in Christ Jesus,
And it certainly showed!
God gave this man a new heart,
And a new name!
And, for Paul, who once was Saul,
Life was never the same!
Now at the "chopping block,"
Paul stands erect, his head held high!
He has completed his earthly ministry,
And now it's time to die!
Other Christians who preceded him here,
Were sent by him, no doubt.
As Saul, he had entered many a home,
And dragged its occupants out.
He had cast many of them into prison,
Without any hope of release!
Saul was "the chiefest of sinners,"
Before he himself found peace!
Now he can say,
"The things I once hated I love!"
For, he did an "about face,"
When God's light shined from above!
This man risked life and limb,
To carry the "good news,"
To lowly Gentiles,
Who were considered "dogs" by the Jews!
Paul was shipwrecked, stoned,
And beaten with a whip!
But, he knew with help from God,
He would never “lose his grip!”
Paul carried "a thorn in the flesh,"
Until this, his dying day!
He had asked God three times,
To please take it away.
However, it was not in the will of God,
For it to be!
So, God said, "Paul, my grace,”
“Is sufficient for thee!"
The Apostle Paul had spent his whole life,
In service to the Lord!
Now, he is a few minutes away,
From receiving his reward!
Like his Master before him,
His heart cries out too,
"Father, forgive them,”
“For they know not what they do."
When the time for execution arrives,
He willingly lays his head down.
Then Paul, God's gallant soldier,
Receives his long-awaited crown!

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I've heard it said, my Friend,
"All good things must come to an end!"
Here on earth this is always true!
Good times do not last.
All too soon they have passed,
Oft times leaving us sad and blue.
Ah, but I know of a place,
Where by God's grace,
We Christians will one day go!
'Tis a beautiful land,
Fashioned by God's own hand!
There crystal waters flow!
In the sweet by and by,
We'll have no reason to cry!
Time will be no more!
Yes, when we leave this world of sorrow,
On that glad tomorrow,
We shall land safely on Heaven's shore!

A DAY OF RECKONING!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
The coming of the Lord,
Is about to take place!
Then, every member of Adam’s race,
Shall behold His wonderful face!
The wicked will be fearful,
On that fateful day.
To the rocks in the mountains,
They will loudly pray.
“Fall on us,” they will say.
But, there will be no hiding.
For each person will stand,
With the evidence of their life’s deeds,
There in their hands.
Jesus will judge them,
With a judgment that is fair!
Heaven’s record books will be opened,
Displaying what’s written there.
Each soul will be examined.
And as Christ looks inside,
Will we be joyful?
Has His blood been applied?
Have we loved our enemies,
Just like our Sisters and Brothers?
Have we honored Christ above all others?
With a smile on His face,
Will Jesus say,”Well done?”
Or will we be banished,
By God’s precious Son?
For everyone’s sin the price has been paid!
So, we will be judged by the choices we’ve made.
Will we enter God’s Heaven or be turned away?
What will be the outcome on that reckoning day?

FOR FREEDOM'S SAKE
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
In my mind's eye, I see row after row,
Of crosses and Stars of David below,
Covering the peaceful, rolling countryside.
Each man's purpose was the same.
It was for the sake of freedom they came,
And for freedom every one of them died!
Dear God, they were so very young,
And "their song was not yet sung."
Their lives ended much too fast.
But, though they are dead and gone,
Their memory lingers on,
Over the many years that have passed!
"Twas for the Red, White, and Blue,
And a people they never knew,
That they laid their lives on the line!
Ah, hut it wasn't just for them, you know,
That the red blood did flow!
It was for everyone's freedom,
Including yours and mine!
Let us lift the banners high!
Their memory shall never die!
Long may the ship of freedom sail!
And wherever "Old Glory" flies,
Brave men will still rise,
That freedom may long prevail!

.AH, SPRING IS HERE!
F. Dotson © 2014
Ah, 'tis Spring! Oh, happy day!
Winter's cold is gone away!
The sky is blue! The grass is green,
And the flowers are the prettiest,
I've ever seen!
Their assorted hues of lavender, yellow, and red,
Adorn many a beautiful flower bed!
Also, wild flowers appearing here and there,
Sway in the warmer Springtime air!
Farmers plowng and sowing their fields,
Are hoping for greater annual yields!
Ah, soon there will be vast fields of green,
Planted with hay, corn, and soybeans!
'Tis Spring when a mother rabbit goes on a quest,
To find for her "younguns" a suitable nest!
Observant robins recognize the sound,
Of earthworms moving under the ground!
They then hop by to take a peak,
And quickly grasp them with their beak!
Friend, our God has decorated the land,
With beauties from His artistic hand!
Across the very face of Earth,
His creation is speaking of new birth!
Here and there are trees uith majestic blooms!
There are weddings with happy brides and grooms!
Ah, when these happenings appear,
My heart just sings for Spring is here!

WARRIORS OF FAITH
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Oh, to be like Enoch,
Who walked with God each day.
He drew so near. He got close
'Til he was called away.
Or, to be like Brother Noah,
Who found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
He saved himself and all his house,
By trusting in God's word.
Oh, to be like Abraham, friend of God,
Man of faith was he.
He was searching for that country,
That would last throughout eternity.
I'd even like to be like Jacob,
Though a supplanter at the start.
He found much grace. God changed his name,
And Israel received a new heart.
I'd like to be like Joseph,
That young man so wise and pure.
He was tempted by old satan,
And could have given in for sure.
Could I ever be like Moses?
Meekest man on earth was he.
He led Israel out. He stretched forth his rod,
And our God parted the sea.
I'd like a heart like Caleb.
"Give me this mountain", he declared.
Though it was infested with giants,
His God and Caleb were prepared.
Who was as mighty as Joshua?
He put on God's armour and sword.
He said, "As for me and my house,
We're going to serve the Lord."
I long to be like Samuel.
He said to God, "Here am I."
Though the priesthood was polluted,
He served Jehovah 'til he died.
Who can compare to King David,
"A man after God's own heart?"
No matter what others did,
He always took God's part.
Oh, to be like King Hezekiah.
He sought God with tears.
His prayer reached heaven. God changed his mind,
And gave him fifteen more years.
I must not forget to mention Daniel,
Or the Hebrews three.
The king built an idol and commanded them to worship,
But they would not bow the knee.
I've had many fine examples,
Down through the ages of time.
I have saved the greatest to speak of last.
He's that wonderful Redeemer of mine!
Oh, I long to be like Jesus, Mighty Counselor,
Son of God, Prince of Peace
Lily of the Valley, Bright and Morning Star,
Fairest of Ten Thousand is He!
A STROLL THROUGH THE WOODS
In my mind's eye, I see the fog like a shroud of lace,
Covering the river's face.
The sun above like a glowing ball of fire,
In the heavens climbs higher and higher!
The Eastern sky is beautiful with God's adorning!
It sure is a lovely morning!
Though I might expect this to be like any other day,
Time proves it to be unique in its own way!
In the woods tiny creatures stir,
Amongst the trees, pine, oak, beech and fir!
A sleepy-eyed horned owl, a creature of the night,
Blinks its eyes as if to say, "Who turned on the light?"
Chipmunks hurry and scurry here and there,
As the cawing of a flock of crows fills the air!
A spider's web gilded with dew catches my eye.
'Tis a trap for some unwitting fly!
Nearby, an army of ants get their exercise,
Moving a load many times their size!
Busy bees work hour after hour,
Extracting nectar from the heart of a flower!
I hear the sound of a babbling brook,
And stroll over to take a look!
I am amazed at its being so clear!
On the bank I see the footprints of a deer!
I gaze off to my right a hundred feet or so,
And see a baby fawn, a buck, and a doe!
As I cherish in my mind this beautiful scene,
In surroundings so serene,
I become as excited as a young boy,
Knowing God gave me this moment to enjoy!
===============================================================
DADDY AND ME
In my mind's eye I can see him yet,
Wipin' the sweat,
And holdin' on to the plow.
I learned from the start,
That if farmin' was an art,
My daddy sure knew how!
He tended the fields,
Producing the maximum yields.
Then, he gave the landowner half.
That's the way they would do.
Livestock was divided too,
Right down to a cow and her calf!
Daddy ruled our home with on iron hand,
Which was something I didn't understand,
And I still can't comprehend it all today.
But, to provide for us he wore his body out,
And without a doubt,
He must have loved us in his own way.
Back then "kids were to be seen and not heard!"
So, you had better not utter a sassy word,
Or you knew you would "get the belt!"
Yes, there were times when I sassed,
And the memories still last,
Of exactly how it felt!
With the assistance of the rod,
And a strong belief in God,
Daddy "kept me on the Straight and Narrow path!"
But, there came a day,
When I became old enough to stray,
And I subsequently suffered God's wrath!
However, when my days of roamin' were done,
This prodigal son,
Returned to the God of his dad!
And though I had wandered in sin,
God and Daddy took me in,
And treated me like I never had!
Daddy died in Nineteen and Eighty Seven,
Thank God, he awaits me in Heaven,
In a mansion beside a golden street!
So, onward I trod,
Keeping my strong faith in God,
With the realization that one day we shall meet!

WE MUST KEEP HOLINESS ALIVE!
They "blazed the trail" before us,
Those blessed servants of God,
Caring not for wealth nor fame,
As on this earth they trod!
The early Christians were persecuted.
Some were burnt at the stake.
Many were brutally slaughtered,
Solely for the Gospel's sake.
Though the world was not worthy of them,
They were tried and true!
They loved not their life to the finish,
And they "made it through!'
Friend, all down through the ages,
And even to the present day,
There has been a group of people,
Living "the Holiness way!"
Our forefathers were such people!
They suffered ridicule and shame.
But they kept on living "Holiness,"
Through faith in Jesus' name!
They were called "Holy Rollers,"
"Fanatics", and "Tongue gang" too.
Friend, their faithfulness then,
Has made it easier for me and you!
They were God's peculiar people,
Sanctified and set apart!
Sin was foreign to them!
They remained pure in heart!
They were praying people,
Always taking God at His word!
Their testimony to God's greatness,
Was all you ever heard!
They didn't have a lot of money.
No finery could be found.
So when they needed anything,
They always "prayed it down!"
They left us the greatest religious heritage,
Man has ever known!
We are reaping yet today,
From the seeds they had sown!
The "torch of Holiness" has been passed to us!
We must lift it high!
Oh, let us never lay it down,
Or cause its flame to die.
It will take great effort on our part,
With a love so pure and strong,
If we are ever going to be able,
To "pass this faith along!"
We can do it, one and all,
By "pressing our shoulder to the wheel!"
Then, when Jesus comes back to get us,
Folks will be living it still!
One generation shall praise Thy works to another, and shall declare
Thy mighty acts! Psalms 145:4 KJV

GOD DOESN'T PLAY FAVORITES
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
God has no respect of persons, it’s true.
He doesn’t love me more than He loves you.
Friend, down through the years I have found
That before God we all stand on equal ground!
He is always attentive to our cries!
There are no “big U’s” or little “i’s!”
And though we all are different, you see,
That’s how God made us to be.
God has no stepchildren, grandchildren, or in-laws!
And He doesn't recognize "a grandfather clause!"
God is not swayed by the power of men!
He doesn't condone anybody's sin!
Rich and poor, small and great,
All must enter at One Gate!
For God loves the rich and poor the same,
If they honestly call upon His name!
He will hear anybody when they pray,
If they don’t let pride stand in their way.
God offers freely to us all,
Pardon from sin which was created by “Adam’s fall.”
He invites us to come without money and buy,
Salvation which will completely satisfy!
He always answers when we call.
We just have to be free from sin, that’s all.
In my mind I can still hear Jesus say,
“I am the Truth, the Light, and the Way!”
P.S. I enjoy telling folks that God loves all of us the same.
But, He treats each one of us like an only child!
In His Service,
~Brother Bob~

LIBERTY
Seeing "Old Glory" waving high,
And proud against a clear blue sky,
Is a vivid reminder that people will die,
For Liberty.
Red and yellow, black and white,
Have joined together in the fight,
To champion the cause of right,
And Liberty!
So, with God, our Sovereign in command,
Let brotherhood reign across our land,
And forever we will joyfully stand,
For Liberty!

AH, SWEET MEMORIES!
Ah, sweet memories from my childhood,
Quite often I find,
Overcome life’s clutter,
And flow gently through my mind!
I remember sleeping ‘neath a tin roof,
To the rhythm of falling rain,
And waking the next morning,
With my young body free from pain!
I would lie there as the aroma,
Of Mama's bacon, eggs, and bread,
Came floating into my room,
And seemed to encircle my bed.
Back then, we ate a hearty breakfast,
With all the family there.
Then, we’d gather at the family altar,
For our daily morning prayer!
I remember being close to my cousins.
We sure had a good time!
Like typical boys,
We always loved to climb.
Quiet often our escapades,
Were not all that good,
For what one boy didn’t think of,
The other two would.
We often played “Andy Over,”
Or “tag” while it was still light.
Then, we’d go inside and play “I spy,”
Until bedtime that night!
Once my family made sorghum molasses,
Back in the Kentucky hills.
A mule provided the power,
To turn the sugar cane mill.
We put the syrup in an iron kettle,
And cooked it that night,
And when we tasted the finished product,
It was just right!
I remember church fellowship meetings,
With “dinner on the ground.”
No better food or fellowship,
Could anywhere be found!
I always enjoyed Vacation Bible School,
And the things we made.
It was there the foundation of the faith,
I have today was laid!
In Sunday School I listened,
As the stories unfolded from God’s word.
The story of David and Goliath,
Was the most exciting I’d ever heard!
But, the greatest story was about Jesus,
“The Man of Galilee,”
Who died a cruel death on Calvary,
To save a boy like me!

I thank God for the influence my precious mother had on my life. She gave her heart to God when I was just a small boy many years ago. I never saw her smoke a cigarette or heard her swear. Life wasn’t easy being a tenant farmer’s wife. But, she relied on God! When her children were sick she would ask God to heal them. We didn’t have the finer things in life. However, there was never a question in my mind that she loved me.
A PATTERN FOR ME
The blessed truth,
I learned in my youth,
Sustains me yet today!
For I was taught,
I must be blood-bought,
And walk the Straight and Narrow Way!
My precious Mother,
More than any other,
Was a positive influence on me.
In a world of sin and strife,
Her Godly life,
Was plain for all to see!
She was always there,
With intercessory prayer,
When she knew I was in need!
When my faith grew weak,
The Holy Ghost would speak,
With a message I must heed!
Many years have gone by,
But I still rely,
On the prayers she prayed for me!
Her desire still today,
Is that in every way,
I’ll be the man God wants me to be!

A LETTER FROM HOME!
I got another letter today,
From down Kentucky way!
Who it was from wasn't hard to tell!
I knew the handwriting very well!
For over a quarter of a century now,
Through good and bad times somehow,
My mother has so faithfully,
Most every week written to me.
"Dear Loved ones," the letters start.
Then, she begins to "pour out her heart."
Each letter will contain family news,
And pertinent religious views!
She writes about how good Christ has been,
He who forgave all of her sins!
Sometimes she will quote word for word,
Lines from a gospel song we've heard!
She always "encourages me in the Lord,"
As we both press forward toward our reward!
I love hearing from Mom and there are times when,
I read her letter all over again.
If Mom doesn't get my letter she will call,
So we can reassure her it's delayed, that's all!
Sometimes the mailman "gets his wires crossed,"
And Mom's letter seems to be lost.
But, it just turns out to be a mishandled letter,
And when it finally comes, I feel much better!
So, once more under Heaven's vast dome,
I've received a letter from Mom and home!
I wrote this poem back in 1994. I came upon it while I was looking
for the poem A PATTERN FOR ME.

IF I COULD WRITE A LOVE SONG
Lord, if I could write a love song,
I would sing it just for you!
It wouldn't be about a love gone wrong,
Or a heart that had proved untrue.
I would tell about all the good things,
You have done for me!
The changes You've made in my life, Lord,
I want the whole wide world to see!
Now, I'm nobody special.
I'm just a common man,
On my way to Heaven,
Trying to do the best I can.
But, when I get over in Glory,
And we've sung a song or two,
Somewhere in Eternity,
I want to sing my song for You!
So, I'm going to write that love song!
I'm going to choose my words just right.
I want to tell how You brought me out of darkness,
Into Your marvelous light!
I was headed for destruction,
'Til Your sweet love brought me through!
So, I will write that love song,
And I'll sing it just for you!

JESUS, THE SUPREME SACRIFICE
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Under the Law the High Priest could only appear,
Behind the veil of the temple once a year,
In an attempt Israel's sins to atone!
But, what would seem to be a flaw,
In that part of the Law,
Was that he must sacrifice for sins of his own.
So, a Permanent Sacrifice must be found,
For man, who God formed from the ground,
This Sacrifice must be Holy and pure!
Therefore, our Heavenly Father above,
Gave His only begotten Son in love,
A Love that shall evermore endure!
The blood of animals could never suffice,
To be the needed sacrifice!
At best it was just a covering for sin.
But, when Calvary's Lamb was slain,
The veil of the temple was rent in twain,
Now, through Jesus Christ we all may enter in!
When to the cross Jesus came,
And though "despising the shame,"
He remained God's dutiful Son!
Jesus never gave up,
And as He drank death's bitter cup,
He said, "Father, not My will but Thine be done!"
Friend, today the gospel call,
Goes out to one and all,
No matter how sinful or depraved!
Salvation is not just for some!
Whosoever will may come,
For God's desire is that all will be saved!

THE ROAD LEADS TO CALVARY
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Born in a stable in Bethlehem, He was destined to die on the cross.
Jesus took on Himself our sins and suffered the pain and loss!
The long road to Calvary started at Jesus' birth.
Yet, He went about doing good while He was here on earth!
The road led to the temple when He was but twelve years old!
He reasoned with the scholars who were stone-faced and cold!
Where he obtained this wisdom the chief priests and scribes could not see!
Was not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, the carpenter from Galilee?
Jesus came in contact with the poor as well as those who had fame!
Friend, after they had met Jesus, they were never the same!
Jesus gave hearing to the deaf and eyesight to the blind!
He loved the little children! He was so good and kind!
The winding road to Calvary led Jesus to a mountain high!
There he talked with Moses and Elijah about how He would die.
The road to Calvary led to Bethany where He raised the dead!
"Lazarus, come forth," were the words Jesus said!
The road later led to the lonely Garden of Gethsemane,
Where He asked His disciples, "Couldn't you watch one hour with me?'"
Jesus had handpicked his twelve disciples knowing that one day,
Judas with a kiss his Master would betray.
Jesus, who said, "Love thine enemies," without a shadow of a doubt,
Practiced the same love He was talking about!
For, there in the Garden of Gethsemane with His life coming to an end,
Though Judas was betraying Him with a kiss, Jesus called him "Friend."
The road to Calvary led to Pilate's judgment hall,
Where Pilate exclaimed, "In Him I find no fault at all."
But, though Jesus was innocent, Pilate sentenced Him to die.
"Away with Him," "Crucify Him," had been the mob's angry cry.
From Pilate's hall Jesus went to Calvary where the road came to an end!
They crucified Him between two thieves. He was without a friend.
But, when He cried, "It is finished," the world's sin debt was paid!
Judgment had demanded a payment and through mercy it was made!

THE MIRACLE OF MOUNT CALVARY
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
God so loved the world that He gave His Son to die,
A cruel death on Calvary for sinners like you and I!
Jesus, our Lord was willing His life to lay down!
He stepped from His throne and laid down His Heavenly crown!
He came as a little babe, a Heavenly King in the form of a man!
No other sacrifice was sufficient to fulfill Salvation's plan!
He lived a life of poverty so Heaven's riches we might enjoy!
Friend, salvation is free to every man, woman, girl, and boy!
Jesus took the road to Calvary knowing all the while,
By His friends He'd be forsaken when He walked that last mile!
What wondrous love and compassion on Calvary was displayed!
Jesus' blood became a fountain whereby our sin debt was paid!
The most elegant words of mortal man could never explain,
How the precious blood of Jesus can wash away sin's stain!
However, we don't have to understand but only believe,
And cleansing for our sins we shall receivel
The miracle of Mount Calvary is healing for the body and soul!
Now we may enter Heaven where we'll live while ages roll!

SCENES FROM MOUNT CALVARY
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Can you see Jesus hanging there?
Listen to His dying prayer,
"Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."
The reason our Blessed Saviour came,
Was to bear all our sin and shame,
Thus providing salvation for me and you!
As He hangs there dying,
The angry mob is crying,
"Crucify him, away with this man."
Can you hear them rant and rave,
"He saved others but himself He cannot save?"
Ah, but unfolding before us is God's redemption plan.
Jesus came unto His own and they received Him not.
Now Roman soldiers cast lots,
For, the very clothes our Saviour wore!
Jesus' physical appearance is so marred,
And terribly scarred,
More that any other man before!
When Jesus was suffering the worst,
He cried, "I thirst!"
Oh, the excruciating pain!
Then, just before He died,
"It is finished," He cried,
And the veil of the temple was rent in twain!
After three days in the ground,
Jesus' disciples found,
That He had risen true to His word!
Now both Gentile and Jew,
May receive salvation too,
Wherever the "Good News " is heard!

THE CRIMSON TIDE
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Three crosses stood on Calvary's brow.
It was Crucifixion Day.
In my mind's eye I can see them now,
On that hillside so far away.
"Father, forgive them," Jesus cried,
"They know not what they do."
And as the blood flowed from His side,
It brought redemption for me and you!
Roll on oh cleansing crimson tide,
Flow on forevermore!
On thee our ransomed souls shall ride,
'Til we reach Heaven's shore!

EASTER MORNING
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Mary and the others were in awe,
At what they saw,
That first Easter Day!
In the cool morning air,
They could only stare,
For someone had rolled the stone away!
Jesus’ body had been stolen they feared.
But, then Holy angels appeared,
Alleviating every misgiving!
“Jesus is no longer dead,”
The angels said!
“Behold, He has rejoined the living!”
Sister Mary run and tell,
Now Jesus is alive and well!
He conquered death, hell, and the grave!
‘Twas a critical hour.
But, by His mighty power,
He arose our souls to save!
Now, any member of Adam’s race,
Through God’s amazing grace,
Can rise up and joyously sing,
“Sin’s mighty flood,”
“Is under the blood!”
“Thank God, I’m a child of the King!

THE EMPTY TOMB!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
The tomb is empty!
Oh, what a glorious sight!
The long night has ended,
With the first rays of light!
The crucifixion is passed,
With its sorry and gloom.
Now hope springs eternal,
From the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
Our Lord conquered death!
He cried, "It is finished,"
With His final breath!
Yes, Christ was the Victor,
O'er death's impending doom!
Now we shall live forever,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
There's hope for tomorrow,
Beyond this world of sin,
Pain, and great sorrow!
For we have our Lord's promise,
Though storm clouds may loom,
Our future looks bright,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
So, let's go tell the story,
Of how our Lord was "caught up",
To His home in Glory!
He sent the Holy Ghost message,
To the upper room,
Signed, sealed, and delivered,
From the empty tomb!

JESUS LIVES!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Mary came to the sepulchre,
Awhile before dawn.
And finding it empty.
She alerted Peter and John,
That the tomb was empty,
Was a puzzling sight .
Jesus’ body wasn’t there,
Had someone stolen it,
During the night?
Ah, but all of His clothing,
Was lying in place,
Including the napkin,
Which had covered His face!
Wondering in their hearts,
What might have been,
Peter and John,
Returned home again.
Ah, but staying awhile longer,
Mary stood outside crying,
And took one more look,
At where Jesus’ body had been lying.
Then, she saw two angels,
Arrayed in white.
They certainly were,
An awesome sight!
“Why are you weeping?”
She heard the angels say.
Mary loudly lamented,
“They’ve taken my Lord away.”
As she turned to leave,
She met Jesus face to face!
But, she thought Him to be,
The gardener of that place.
“Woman, whom seekest thou,”
Jesus tenderly said.
She had forgotten Jesus teaching,
He would arise from the dead.
“Where have you laid Him,”
She continued to say.
But, then Jesus said, “Mary,”
In that old familiar way!
And immediately Mary was rid,
Of all sorrow and gloom!
She was renewed with vigor,
As she departed from the tomb!

WAIT FOR ME
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
If you should be the first to go,
It sure would cheer my heart to know,
That in Heaven,
Where the crystal waters flow,
You'll wait for me!
Through valleys low my path may wind.
But, Darling I won't mind,
If at my journey's end I find,
You waiting there for me!
However, it might be the case,
That I would outrun you in life's race.
If so Dear, I'll just find a resting place,
And wait for you!
Together we've felt,
The sunshine and the rain,
And shared the laughter and the pain.
So, this one fact shall remain,
I'll wait for you!

HERE’S MY HEART!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I cannot offer you wealth or fame.
In the world’s social register,
There’s no mention of my name.
Dear, I want to be honest with you,
Right from the start.
I have no gold or silver.
But, I’ll give you my heart!
I can’t take you on vacation,
To London or Rome,
To show you Big Ben,
Or a cathedral’s majestic dome.
Our excursions in the future,
May be only a few miles apart.
But, I promise to stay close by you,
And give you my heart!
I’ll make every endeavor,
To be a Godly man,
And to love, honor, and protect you,
The best that I can.
Our love will be a symphony,
A beautiful work of art,
Created the very moment,
I give you my heart!

FRIENDSHIP
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
"A friend loveth at all times!"
Oh, what a beautiful thought'
A friendship is "cultivated,"
But never, ever bought!
A friend is one who'll stand by you,
Even when clouds are dark and gray,
And be at your "beckon call,"
No matter what hour of the day!
A friend will lend a "listening" ear,
To a problem great or small,
And never tell what you've told them,
No matter "who" comes to call!
A friend will visit when you've missed church,
Or send a card your way.
They'll kneel before our God above,
And call out your name when they pray!
A friend will know when to come around,
When you're down and feeling blue,
And have the very words to say,
That God has sent to you!
A friendship doesn't have to cease,
When someone moves out of state!
You can spend some vacation time with them.
The fellowship is great!
Take in a couple of campmeetings,
And then visit one of God's creations!
Spend some "prayer time" together,
And strengthen those friendly relations!
The Bible plainly tells us if we want friends,
We must friendly be!
Friendships started down here on earth,
Can last eternally!
When a friend dies you love them still,
Although you're far apart!
Their memory and your love for them,
Remains inside your heart!
Although you may have many friends,
Another can't take their place,
And there is a longing in your heart,
To once more see their face!
There are friendships natural,
And also friendships divine!
Yes, some friends are so close,
That their very hearts entwine!
How wonderful it is for a man and his wife
To be joined together,
And remain good friends for life!
And yet, a greater friendship,
Is one with Jesus our Lord,
When we sweet communion find,
Together in one accord!
A friendship with Jesus,
Is far above any other!
Our Lord is a Friend,
That sticketh closer than a brother!"
He was our great example of friendship,
To the very end!
For greater love could no man have,
Than to lay down his life for his friends!

IF TOMORROW COMES
If tomorrow comes once more I'll rise,
'Neath sunny or even stormy skies,
And thank God for another day!
It will be a day like no other,
With opportunities to help my Sister and Brother,
And sow some seeds of kindness along the way!
Each day I live is Heaven sent!
And this one will be wisely spent,
If I place everything in God's hands!
I cannot "do my own thing,"
And please my Lord and King.
His will must be my only plans!
If tomorrow comes I'll face that day,
In very much the same way,
I've faced so many others before.
For, as I step into the unknown,
I shall not be alone,
For I will enter through Christ, the Open Door!

THE OLD HOME PLACE
The young man took one long last look at the old home place.
Then he did an about face,
And slowly walked down the little country lane.
In the belltower the church bells began to toll,
Causing a loneliness in his soul.
But, he kept a straight face to mask the pain.
As he entered into a life of sin,
He realized if he ever make it home again,
Things would never be quite the same.
However, he was just thinking about here and now,
And though he didn't know how,
He planned on making himself a name!
Ah, it wasn't very long,
Until a life of wine, women, and song,
Produced moral and physical decay.
Every night he'd get high.
Then the next morning he would cry,
With a headache that just wouldn't go away.
Eventually, he was left without a friend.
And he had reached his rope's end,
When he heard about Jesus, God's Son!
He heard a street preacher say,
"Christ will wash your sins away,"
"And forgive you for every wrong you've done!"
So, he accepted Jesus into his life,
And he left behind all sin and strife,
And the insatiable urge to roam.
Then laying aside his foolish pride,
He "hitched" ride after ride,
In an attempt to reach his childhood home.
Oh, it was a cold and wintry night,
And he could barely see the light,
On the porch of the little house on the hill.
His face felt frozen and he could barely see.
Then he saw that old familiar oak tree.
It's location near the house he remembered still!
From the oak tree he crawled the last few feet,
Not knowing what kind of reception he would meet,
As he weakly knocked on the cabin door.
Ah yes, he could hear voices inside,
And as the door swung open wide,
The sight of home made his spirits soar!
Next he saw the most wonderful sight.
It was his Daddy with hair so white!
Big old tears were streaming down his face.
His precious Mommy stood by his side.
Then she lovingly replied,
"Son, things just haven't been the same,"
"Since you left the old home place."

A TRIP WITH MY FRIEND MEMORY
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Last night an old acquaintance,
Knocked upon my door.
It was my dear friend Memory,
Who came to visit me once more!
He said, "Old Pal my shiny train,”
“Is waiting at the track!"
So, I grabbed my hat, my coat, and my cane,
And we went flying back!
Back across the years we went,
To an old familiar place,
And there patiently waiting for me,
Was a most welcome face!
It was the lad that once was me,
Who met us with a grin!
Once more he embraced me tenderly saying,
"I knew you'd come again!"
We took a stroll down a country road.
Just Memory, the lad, and I,
And when we reached the little family abode,
I suppressed the urge to cry.
Next, we went to the little schoolhouse,
Where I learned to read and write.
Once more I saw my childhood friends,
Who were a pleasant sight!
It was no surprise each one of them,
Looked like they did before.
They sure were glad to see me!
They said so o'er and o'er!
We ran barefoot through a meadow,
And swung on the old grapevine!
This caused the joy to overflow,
Within this heart of mine!
We visited the little church,
Where I attended as a lad!
We worshiped there as a family,
Of this I sure am glad!
Then, I found myself wishing,
I wouldn't have to leave the past.
But, I knew deep inside of me,
This visit wasn't meant to last.
So, with an aching heart I embraced the lad,
As Memory called "All Aboard!"
Then, the speeding train whisked me away,
From the place I once adored!
Back in time we went quickly,
Over many, many years,
Then, I found myself in my easy chair.
My eyes were filled with tears.
But, it seemed I heard the lad say,
From somewhere in my heart,
"Be patient, for there will come a day,”
“When we'll never have to part!"

WHO WILL?
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
If we don't practice intercessory prayer,
And from our store house gladly share,
To prove to the world we really care,
Who will?
Though we may be going through our own trial,
If we don't give to our neighbor a smile,
While "going the extra mile,"
Who will?
As Christians and recipients of the Second Birth,
We represent the interests of God on this earth!
If we don't appreciate a lost soul's worth,
Who will?
Friend, lost souls are at stake.
If we do not a difference make,
nd win them for Heaven's sake,
Who will?
Friends and loved ones day by day,
Are turning their backs on the Narrow Way.
If we don't warn them not to stray,
Who will?

A RISKY RIGHTEOUS RENDEZVOUS
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
As I walked in the door,
The desk clerk said, "Good evening Senor,"
"May I be of assistance to you?"
Secrecy was a must!
Was he someone I could trust?
I searched his face for the smallest clue!
Due to the excessive heat,
My face was "as red as a beet!"
So, I asked for a place to sit down.
I assumed right away,
It was here I must stay,
Since it was the only hotel in town!
After catching my breath for awhile,
I said producing my best smile,
"I would like a room for the night."
"Sir, you may have room ten,"
"He said with a grin,"
"It's the second room on your right!"
The room sure was nice!
So I asked him the price,
But, he acted as though he hadn't heard!
Then, he whispered "Mr. Blue,"
"There's no cost to you,"
And he disappeared without saying another word!
I prayed an earnest prayer,
As I wondered how many other people out there,
Besides the desk clerk knew my name!
I was curious too,,
Just how much they knew,
Of the reason why I came.
Thoughts were running wildly through my head,
As I placed my suitcase under the bed,
And quickly turned around to find,
To my utter surprise,
I beheld a pair of eyes,
Staring at me through the Venetian blind!
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door!
So, I walked across the floor,
And slowly opened it wide!
There before me a nervous stronger stood,
Who asked if he could,
Please come inside!
I said, "Sure, come on in,"
And he said with a grin,
"I'm your contact, Mr. Blue!"
"Our every move is being traced!"
"We must make haste!"
"Did you bring the Bibles with you?"
When I handed him the suitcase he looked inside,
And his face was glowing with pride,
As his eyes filled up with tears!
He said, "I guess it's plain to see,
"That this means so much to Me!"
"We've waited for these Bibles for years!"
He didn't seem to have anything else to say.
So, he turned away,
And was engulfed by the darkness of the night!
Due to all of the excitement I hadn't seen,
My waiting limousine!
So, you can be assured it was a welcome sight!
I rushed to it and quickly closed the door!
Then, with a mighty roar,
We sped toward a waiting plane!
Never in my whole life had I known,
Such a feeling of being alone.
My friends would have considered me insane.
As the plane left the ground,
It could easily have been downed,
By the steady ring of gunfire.
But, we all said a prayer,
As we sped through the air,
And steadily climbed higher and higher!
Now as I stand looking out over the bay,
Thinking of the preceding day,
That transpired on a foreign shore,
I thank God for His marvelous grace,
In helping me escape from that place!
But, somehow I wish I could have done more!

IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Although troubles and trials,
May fill my life's last few miles,
And heavy may be my load,
Though my strength be almost gone,
I shall journey on,
With Jesus toward my heavenly abode!
Why should circumstances be different for me,
Than they were for the Hebrews Three,
Daniel, or Silas, and Paul?
I too am a man,
And according to God's plan,
We're His children one and all!
Though unlike these men,
I've not faced fire or a lion's den,
Or been imprisoned in a Roman jail,
Before I end life's race,
These similar problems I may face.
How soon it will happen is hard to tell.
Ah, but as a Christian my future is bright!
For some morning, noon, or night,
My Lord will call for me!
Whether I'm raptured in the twinkling of an eye,
Or I live to “a ripe old age” and die,
With Christ I shall forever be!
So, if I face great peril and strife,
And for Christ's sake I must give my life,
My reward shall outweigh my trials here!
For when I stand before the King,
My happy soul shall sing,
As all memories of earth shall disappear!

SUCH IS LIFE
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Life is filled with changes it seems,
With broken hearts and shattered dreams.
Things seldom work out the way I planned.
But, these temporal things can't touch my soul!
My eyes are fixed on my eternal goal!
Heaven will be a much better land!
Loved ones often break my heart.
At times my world seems to be falling apart.
But, I'll understand it better by and by.
Ah yes, I'm tempted to run and hide.
But, I must struggle up life's mountain side.
Its pinnacle seems to reach the sky.
I've had my share of trouble and sorrow.
Sometimes I dread to face tomorrow.
Often warm tears run down my face.
But, though my emotions may run wild,
I have no doubt I'm still God's child!
With every situation He provides sufficient grace!

I’M GOING BACK HOME
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Why I left my father’s house,
I can never tell.
There was food aplenty,
And I was treated well!
I wore princely garments!
There were shoes upon my feet!
I held a place of honor!
Life for me was sweet!
Ah, but satan placed within my heart,
A longing to roam.
Then, when I gave into its bidding,
It took me far from home.
Sin’s pleasures for a season,
Were wine, women, and song.
I ate, drank, and was merry.
But, that was not to be for long.
You see, I ran out of money.
So, my so called friends left me behind.
So, I went to the nearest farm,
Employment to find.
The farm’s owner lived in a mansion,
With furnishings so fine.
The only job he could offer me,
Was feeding his hungry swine.
In desperation I accepted his offer,
With a heart full of dread.
I was almost delirious,
As thoughts of home ran through my head.
Did not my father’s servants,
Have plenty to eat,
While I, his youngest son,
Had no shoes upon my feet?
So, I determined to go back to my father,
Saying, “I can no longer be your son.”
“How could you ever forgive me,”
“For the awful things I’ve done?”
“I have so little to offer you.”
“But, what I have I humbly bring.”
“I’m only a lowly pauper,”
“Approaching a great king.”
“I feel so ashamed.”
“So unworthy am I”
“As I kneel in your presence,”
“Please hear my humble cry.”
Then, my father lovingly kissed me,
Saying, “Son, I’ve prayed much on your behalf.”
“My son which was dead,”
“Is now alive!”
“Let’ go kill the fatted calf!”
Now, I’m back where I belong!
I’ve gained my rightful place!
Within my heart there is a song!
It’s called “Amazing Grace!”
====================================================================================
I’LL JUST RUN ON!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I’m not the swiftest runner in this Christian race.
At times I must prod myself to pick up the pace.
Then, I ask my dear Lord for added grace,
To help me run on!
Life’s race is not a sprint for sure.
It’s a marathon which I must endure,
While living a life that is holy and pure,
As I run on!
I must lay aside every weight and sin,
If to Heaven I would enter in.
A crown of life I shall win,
If I just run on!
I cannot veer from side to side.
I must be compelled by love and not by pride.
In God’s presence I shall abide,
If I’ll just run on!
The road to Heaven is narrow and straight.
No sin shall ever enter the pearly gates.
So, let us labor, watch, and wait,
As we run on!

====================================================================
CHANGES!
Change, the one thing we all are prone to resist,
Often comes about through opportunities missed!
And, there are times when we aren't to blame.
Yet changes happen just the same.
Change is more difficult as we get older it seems.
It is often enough to shatter our dreams.
However, we welcome a change that is for the good,
And seem to appreciate it as we should!
"Winds of change" can sometimes seem ill!
Then, we must pray, "Father if it be Thy will!"
Folks often enjoy a "change of pace,"
Or an opportunity to move to a different place!
Changes in the weather that are often told,
Make some folks too hot and others too cold!
There are changes in fashion every once in a while,
And the way folks dress is enough to make me smile!
Sometimes there are changes in our nation's laws,
Which are for an unjust cause!
Friend, it was a dark day across our land,
When abortion was declared legal,
And performed on demand.
Life is full of changes, you see,
That definitely affect you and me!
But, we have a Saviour who changes no never!
He's the same yesterday, today, and forever!
There is a Scripture I like a lot,
That says the Lord is our God and He changes not!
Friend, I certainly do not feel that it is strange,
To serve a God who does not change!

COME UNTO ME!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
"Come unto me," the Saviour said,
"I will lift your load of care!"
By Me your hungry soul is fed,"
"If you come in humble prayer!"
"Come ye victims of the fall,"
"Each tribe and tongue of Adam's race!"
"I will save you one and all,"
"Through the power of my grace!"
And still His call goes out today,
O'er mountain top and the burning sand.
He is the Truth, the Light, and the Way!
On Jesus you shall forever stand!
Oh, His Second Coming is so near,
And we will hear His victory shout,
When our blessed Lord shall appear,
To take His children out!
Yes, in the twinkling of an eye,
On that grand and glorious day,
He will appear in the Eastern sky,
To catch His waiting bride away!

COME UNTO JESUS
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Friend, are you weary traveling life’s road?
Are you trying alone to carry sin’s load?
Have you slowly sunk into deepest despair,
While wondering to yourself, “Does anybody care?”
Have troubles and trials and constant fear,
Caused your joy to completely disappear?
Are you confused, and do you often find,
Depressing thoughts clouding your mind?
When you lie down on your bed at night,
Do you often wish for the morning light,
Only to find that throughout the day,
Inside you’re feeling the very same way?
Does your trying to “turn over a new leaf,”
Only cause added frustration and grief?
Do you find yourself going to great length,
Defending habits which are sapping your strength?
Do you feel like you’re living “neath a dark cloud?”
Are you desperately lonely even in a crowd?
Do you have questions with no answers in sight?
Is your life full of darkness without any light?
Are you constantly reminded of the sins of your youth?
Have you tried everything in search of the truth?
Do you want to be able to look yourself in the face?
Have you ever heard of God’s amazing grace?
Could I tell you of Someone I have found,
Who can turn your life completely around?
His name is Jesus He's my Saviour and Friend,
He's Someone on whom you can always depend

FROM AGONY TO ECSTASY!
In a dry and barren land,
I found myself one day.
I was unable to stand.
So, I fell on my face to pray.
“Lord, there’s a longing in my soul,”
“Only You can satisfy.”
“So, please come to my rescue,”
“Or I shall surely die.”
Then, I heard His tender voice,
Say, “Come unto me,”
“For a cool drink of water.”
“My child, it is free!”
“With My heavenly manna,”
“Your hungry soul I’ll fill!”
“Just place your soul in my keeping,”
“And bend to My will!”
So, with all that was within me,
I heeded His call!
I said, “Lord, I’ll serve You!”
“I’ll give You my all!”
And since that glorious day,
Through the good times and bad,
I can honestly say,
He’s the best Friend I’ve ever had!

A PAUPER BECOMES A PRINCE!
Shout it from the rooftops!
Tell it all around!
Jesus is the best Friend,
My soul has ever found!
I was lost and dying,
Sinking with no hope.
Satan had me blinded.
All I could do was grope.
Then, Jesus had pity on me,
And threw out “the old lifeline!”
And ever since that wonderful happy day,
Great joy has been mine!
The ragged garments of sin,
That I clutched around me so tight,
Were traded to Jesus,
For this new robe of white!
The heavy fetters fell off,
My hands and my feet!
My heart that was so burdened,
Now has a new beat!
Gone from my soul,
Is that terrible load of sin!
Now I have joy,
And sweet peace within!
The desires I once had,
We’re stricken from my mind!
Now each day new strength
Through the “Joy of the Lord”I find!
At the very moment,
I made Jesus my choice,
Friend, all of Heaven,
Stood to rejoice!
I, who once fed,
On “the corn husks of sin,”
Am now daily provided,
With “sweet manna” within!
Jesus anointed my eyes,
That I might see more clearly,
Truths in His word,
I now hold so dearly!
My whole conversation,
And lifestyle have changed!
My life God has taken,
And completely rearranged!
The old friends I once had,
Know me no longer.
But, now I've a Christian family,
With ties that are stronger!
Yes, I once was destitute,
And had nothing to bring.
However, now through Jesus,
I'm a child of the King!

===========================================================================================
CHRISTIANITY IS NOT A GAME!
I've noticed that everybody,
Who talks the Christian talk,
Doesn't necessarily,
Walk a Christian walk.
No, I'm not judging one little bit.
But, it's a waste of one's time
Being a hypocrite!
Some folks tell you just how much,
They love the Lord!
Then, they go out among the brethren,
Sowing discord.
Ah yes, being a Christian,
Is more than a game!
So, Brother and Sister,
We must have what we claim!
We're commanded by the Lord,
To go to those in need!
We must rescue the perishing,
And the hungry feed!
We are to help the widow and orphan too!
Isn't that what Christ said to do?
Friend, if to Heaven we would enter in,
We must be completely free from sin!
True Christians must led a Godly life,
And promote love and peace,
Instead of strife!
We must do all things in a Spirit of love,
Else we will not be pleasing to God above!
Let us daily strive to do our best,
Or in the final analysis,
We won't "pass the test!"
We must pray for one another,
And help each other out!
Yes, that's what Christianity is all about!
Friend, I'm not naive enough, you know,
To think my church is the only one that will go.
However, we must all follow,
God's word "to the letter,"
Or on Judgment Day,
We will wish we'd done better!

Saying, “I can no longer be your son.”
“How could you ever forgive me,”
“For the awful things I’ve done?”
“I have so little to offer you.”
“But, what I have I humbly bring.”
“I’m only a lowly pauper,”
“Approaching a great king.”
“I feel so ashamed.”
“So unworthy am I”
“As I kneel in your presence,”
“Please hear my humble cry.”
Then, my father lovingly kissed me,
Saying, “Son, I’ve prayed much on your behalf.”
“My son which was dead,”
“Is now alive!”
“Let’ go kill the fatted calf!”
Now, I’m back where I belong!
I’ve gained my rightful place!
Within my heart there is a song!
It’s called “Amazing Grace!”

COME IN FROM THE COLD!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Come in from Life's storm.
Inside you'll be warm!
You don't have to shiver in the cold!
Come meet the Shepherd of the sheep!
Your soul He will keep,
And you won't ever stray from His fold!
I know you've been abused,
And quite often misused.
But, Jesus is looking for folks like you!
For although your world is torn apart,
He will mend your broken heart,
And make you over anew!
Today is your day!
There's no time for delay.
Listen closely, He's calling your name!
See the smile on Jesus' face,
Once you accept His grace,
You'll never ever be the same!
You see, I was once like you.
I had sinned against God too.
I was miserable as I could be.
Ah, but Jesus said, "Child, I understand!"
So, I gladly took His outstretched hand,
And He wonderfully set me free!

I'M NOT HERE TO STAY!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I'm reminded every day,
That I'm not here to stay.
I'm only a pilgrim passing through.
Like friends and loved ones gone on before,
I'm heading for Heaven's bright shore,
In that beautiful land beyond the blue!
As up life's mountain I slowly climb,
I often have a difficult time.
Sometimes I stumble and almost fall.
However, when the path grows dim,
Jesus lets me lean on Him,
And I'm able to make it after all!
I'm often reminded that each step I make,
And also each breath I take,
Are because of God's wonderful grace!
When I bid this world goodbye,
There's no doubt that I,
Will see my Saviour face to face!
Although my strength is almost gone,
I must travel on,
With my eyes on my eternal goal!
I know at my journey's end,
Jesus, my precious Friend,
Will receive my joyful soul!

WHEN AUTUMN LEAVES BEGIN TO FALL
When Autumn leaves begin to fall,
My heart hears the familiar call,
To that lonely little graveyard on the hill.
So, I'll go there once again,
Because of love for my kin.
And as long as I live I surely will.
Ah, time has made a change in me.
I'm not as spry as I used to be.
One day soon I shall lie neath the cold, cold, ground.
But, I shall not be there for aye!
For come Resurrection Day,
I'll rise up with Gabriel's trumpet sound!
Yes, I may soon be lying still,
In a graveyard on a hill.
But, only my body will be there!
When they place me beneath the sod,
My soul shall fly away to God,
Where I shall dwell in sweet Heaven fair!
You see, I'm just a pilgrim here on this earth,
A nomad by birth,
Seeking a far better land!
I have only one thing on my mind,
And one glorious day I shall find,
That beautiful country built by God's own hand!

Dear readers,
The following poem is directed to all the prodigals,
and especially to those in my family.
We love you so much and want you to come back to the Lord.
WELCOME HOME, DEAR PRODIGAL
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
When you left "the Father's house,"
You were full and fair of face.
But, now as you return,
You are empty and in disgrace!
But, unlike the "elder brother,”
In the parable of the prodigal son,
We welcome you back home ,
Thanking God your wandering is done!
We feared for the safety of your soul,
As you traveled the downward path,
For others who took "the broad road,”
Now face God's eternal wrath!
We prayed for you often,
And our hearts were made to weep.
We asked God to not let you,
Sink in sin too deep.
When you first started straying,
It was so easily done.
What was actually sin,
satan told you was innocent fun.
The bright lights were alluring.
Soon you had lost all your defense.
Then, it seemed that good Holy living,
No longer made any sense.
Ah, ever so slowly,
You lost all the convictions you once had.
Yes, those things that used to prick your heart,
No longer seemed so bad.
"Laying out of church,"
Seemed easier the second time around.
So, without any real direction in life,
You began to "lose ground."
However, you soon found that satan's prison,
Was much worse than before.
Security was much tighter,
With seven demons to guard the door.
You took on worse habits,
Than you had originally given up,And sank into deep despair.
As you tasted sin's bitter cup.
Ah, but one glorious happy day,
A light shined from up above,
Reminding you of life in Father's house,
And His undying love!
As tears of repentance,
Quickly filled your bloodshot eyes,
You said with determination,
"I shall arise!"
Just before it was too late,
You took Christ's extended hand,
And started the long journey,
Back to Father's land!
When you arrived we had a great celebration,
For you had ceased to roam!
Then, we all joined together saying,
"' Dear Prodigal, welcome home!"

The Honeymoon Cottage
Nestled in the heart of the Kentucky hills,
Surrounded by roses and daffodils,
And graced with honeysuckle vines,
Stood a little cabin built long ago,
By folks I was proud to know!
My grandparents chose the spot 'neath the whispering pines!
"It was our honeymoon cottage," Grandpa would say!
"We came straight here on our wedding day,"
"And you know we've been around here ever since!"
The setting was so serene,
"Picture perfect," if you know what I mean,
Right down to the little white picket fence!
Though Grandma was in her seventies she still would sew,
And can the vegetables they could grow,
In the little garden in the clearing at the top of the hill!
Yes, time had made a change in Grandma's face.
But in Grandpa's heart nobody could take her place!
In His eyes she was lovely still!
Grandpa was her gallant knight!
Her face would light up when he came in sight!
Their love grew sweeter with the passing of time!
Yes, Friend it's plain to see if you have love,
That special gift from God above,
You can be happy if you haven't got a dime!
They were married in the church with the tall steeple,
And with Grandpa's and Grandma's people,
There was barely enough room to stand.
The kin folks brought fiddles and five stringed banjos,
Mandolins, guitars, and even dobros!
I'm telling you the music was mighty grand!
No couple was any happier than those two!
The moment they said, "I do,"
Grandpa kissed his bride so tenderly!
"Twas the beginning of a lasting marriage,
And as they sped away in a horse drawn carriage,
They both were as happy as could be!

GOD BLESS THIS DAY!
To have a blessed
We must always pray,
Requesting our daily bread.
If we just ask we shall receive.
But, we must believe.
These are the words Jesus said!
We must not fear or doubt,
Or we will surely do without,
Which would be a terrible shame.
When we go to God in prayer,
The answer is always there,
Through the power of Jesus' name!
Trouble and strife,
Which become the mountains in our life,
Crumble when Jesus draws near!
They shall not stand,
For with the touch of His hand,
He will cause them to disappear!
So, when your back is to the wall,
And you're trying to "stand tall,"
Only a whisper is all it takes!
A true Friend He will be,
So just try and see,
What a difference Jesus makes!

HE IS ALL I NEED!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Day after day,
God supplies my needs!
Hour by hour,
My hungry soul He feeds!
Month after month,
And year after year,
When storms arise,
He delivers me from fear!
God has always been,
There for me!
He moves in wondrous ways,
That I can not see!
He understands,
When I'm feeling blue!
He's a precious friend,
I can always turn to!
When I am sick,
God has the power to heal!
When I need comfort,
His presence is so real!
Even when I need correction,
He applies it with love!
When I need a promise,
His rainbow appears above!
When I need direction,
God is willing to lead,
So, I've found from past experience,
He is all I need!

BEYOND THIS MOUNTAIN
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I ain't never been beyond this here mountain,"
The elderly woman said.
"It's right here I was born, got married,"
“Raised my children,"
"And buried my dead."
Her face had a leathery look,
From too many days in the sun.
I figured only God knew,
How much hard work she'd done!
Each line in her face,
Could tell a story of its own!
Nobody will ever understand,
The heartaches she's known.
As she slowly spoke,
There was a faraway look in her eyes.
But, then she took me completely by surprise,
She said, "What brings you to these here parts, young man?"
Slowly I tried to explain,
I felt it was part of God's plan.
"I'm a preacher, Ma'am," I enthusiastically replied,
Although I felt a little shaky inside!
As I Listened to the antiquated rocking chair squeak,
And waited for my host to continue to speak,
I whispered to God a silent prayer,
Because I knew in my heart He had sent me there!
She finally broke the silence,
In a voice soft and low,
Saying, "I knew you was a comin'!"
"God told me so!"
"Young man, I ain't got much of this world's goods,"
"And I ain't never been beyond these here piney woods."
"Ah, but as a little girl I learned to pray,"
"And Lord knows that's been many a day!"
"God has been with me in times of joy,"
"And also the saddest time of all,"
"
"When we lost our baby boy."
“That youngun was the pride and joy,"
"Of my husband, Will!"
"Now they lie together yonder,"
"'Neath that little grassy hill."
"Will and me had a house full of younguns,
But they all moved away."
"They had a fit when Will died,"
"And I decided to stay."
"But no amount of coaxin',"
"Was goina do any good."
"They's only one way this old lady's,"
"Goina' leave her piney woods!"
Then she said, "Young man,"
"I don't know when I've chattered so,"
"But, I don't see too awful many folks,"
"Around here, you know!"
She said, "I go by Lizzie,"
"But, Elizabeth is my given name,"
"If you called me either one,"
"I guess I'd answer just the same!"
"How long have you been a Christian, Lizzie,"
I said with a smile,
Thinking to myself,
It probably had been quite awhile.
She said, "I'll be ninety years old right soon!'"
"I accepted Jesus on my tenth birthday,"
"The twelfth day of June!"
I thought, "This precious lady has spent eighty years,"
"Serving the Lord!'"
"When she gets up to Heaven,"
"She will surely receive a great reward!"
Lizzie said, "Like I told you before,"
"I was a youngun' back then."
"Ah but, I very well knew the true meaning of sin."
"So, when Jesus came in,"
"And rid my soul of sin and strife,"
"I vowed right then and there,"
"I'd serve Him for the rest of my life!"
"And young man, I am proud to say,"
"My Saviour still dwells in my heart today!"
She said, "My Mammy and Pappy,"
"Never saw the need,"
"For any of us younguns',"
"To go to school and learn to read."
"You know, I made it through life,"
"Without readin' somehow,"
"But, I'd give anything in this world,"
"To learn to read now!"
"You see, my younguns' and other folks,"
"Always read to me,"
"But, now I want to learn to do it myself!"
"Don't you see?"
'"Oh yes, I want to read the Holy Book myself!"
"Would you please fetch that Bible,"
"Down from the shelf?"
I reached up and got a Bible down,
Which was faded with age,
And when I handed it to Lizzie,
She caressed every page!
She said, "I want to read that scripture,”
“Do you know the one I mean?"
"Would you please help me find,”
John chapter three, verse sixteen?"
Then, she handed the Bible back to me,
With her eyes opened wide,
Like a little child opening a gift,
To find out what's inside!
I slowly read, "For God so loved the world,”
“That He gave His only begotten Son,"
And Lizzie hung on to each word,
Until my reading was done!
Then, she said, "Them words are so dear,”
“To this old lady's heart!."
"Tell me, young man when can we start?"
By that time it was getting up in the day,
But, I said, "Let's get started right away!"
Ah, it was a labor of love,
And my heart was stirred,
As Lizzie struggled to recognize,
And pronounce each precious word!
"For God so loved the world,”
“That He gave His only begotten Son."
Time after time we repeated each word,
Until the verse was done!
"That whosoever believeth on Him should not perish,"
"But have everlasting life!"
Ah, this verse had been the means of many,
Escaping a world of sin and strife!
I eagerly visited Lizzie several days each week,
And we were so engrossed in our task,
We hardly took time to speak!
Then, early one morning I knocked on her door,
And when she opened it,
She was as excited as a child once more!
She said, "Hurry up and come in, Dear,"
"I have something I want you to hear!"
Tears filled my eyes as I joyfully heard,
Lizzie reading perfectly each and every word!
Then, she said, "Mercy me,"
"I'd better catch my breath!"
It was then I sensed,
The cold hand of death.
Ah, Lizzie knew well that her life,
Had come to an end,
So, she didn't even struggle,
For death was her friend!
And as the angels came,
To bear away Lizzie's soul,
I smiled knowing,
She had accomplished her goal!

THE OLD TIME PREACHER MAN
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
"Just plant me here in the place of my birth,"
Said the old time preacher man.
"Let my body slowly rejoin the earth."
"'Tis God's unique recycling plan!"
"But, know ye that when all is said and done,"
"My soul will have taken it's flight,"
"And I'll be rejoicing with Jesus, God's Son."
"In that beautiful city of light!"
"For I am the child of a Heavenly King!"
"I've been adopted through God's grace!"
"I'm going where heavenly angels sing,"
"In that wonderful marvelous place!"
"Oh, what is that sounding on my ear?"
"Voices fill the heavenly dome!"
"I now know for certain I can hear,"
"Angels singing, "Child, welcome home!"
"So Friend, don't you weep for me."
"Just remember where I've gone!"
"That Celestial City you too shall see,"
"If you will just journey on!"

GOD'S GALLANT SOLDIER
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
He was changed forever,
After "the encounter on the Damascus Road!"
He became a new creature in Christ Jesus,
And it certainly showed!
God gave this man a new heart,
And a new name!
And, for Paul, who once was Saul,
Life was never the same!
Now at the "chopping block,"
Paul stands erect, his head held high!
He has completed his earthly ministry,
And now it's time to die!
Other Christians who preceded him here,
Were sent by him, no doubt.
As Saul, he had entered many a home,
And dragged its occupants out.
He had cast many of them into prison,
Without any hope of release!
Saul was "the chiefest of sinners,"
Before he himself found peace!
Now he can say,
"The things I once hated I love!"
For, he did an "about face,"
When God's light shined from above!
This man risked life and limb,
To carry the "good news,"
To lowly Gentiles,
Who were considered "dogs" by the Jews!
Paul was shipwrecked, stoned,
And beaten with a whip!
But, he knew with help from God,
He would never “lose his grip!”
Paul carried "a thorn in the flesh,"
Until this, his dying day!
He had asked God three times,
To please take it away.
However, it was not in the will of God,
For it to be!
So, God said, "Paul, my grace,”
“Is sufficient for thee!"
The Apostle Paul had spent his whole life,
In service to the Lord!
Now, he is a few minutes away,
From receiving his reward!
Like his Master before him,
His heart cries out too,
"Father, forgive them,”
“For they know not what they do."
When the time for execution arrives,
He willingly lays his head down.
Then Paul, God's gallant soldier,
Receives his long-awaited crown!

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I've heard it said, my Friend,
"All good things must come to an end!"
Here on earth this is always true!
Good times do not last.
All too soon they have passed,
Oft times leaving us sad and blue.
Ah, but I know of a place,
Where by God's grace,
We Christians will one day go!
'Tis a beautiful land,
Fashioned by God's own hand!
There crystal waters flow!
In the sweet by and by,
We'll have no reason to cry!
Time will be no more!
Yes, when we leave this world of sorrow,
On that glad tomorrow,
We shall land safely on Heaven's shore!

A DAY OF RECKONING!
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
The coming of the Lord,
Is about to take place!
Then, every member of Adam’s race,
Shall behold His wonderful face!
The wicked will be fearful,
On that fateful day.
To the rocks in the mountains,
They will loudly pray.
“Fall on us,” they will say.
But, there will be no hiding.
For each person will stand,
With the evidence of their life’s deeds,
There in their hands.
Jesus will judge them,
With a judgment that is fair!
Heaven’s record books will be opened,
Displaying what’s written there.
Each soul will be examined.
And as Christ looks inside,
Will we be joyful?
Has His blood been applied?
Have we loved our enemies,
Just like our Sisters and Brothers?
Have we honored Christ above all others?
With a smile on His face,
Will Jesus say,”Well done?”
Or will we be banished,
By God’s precious Son?
For everyone’s sin the price has been paid!
So, we will be judged by the choices we’ve made.
Will we enter God’s Heaven or be turned away?
What will be the outcome on that reckoning day?

FOR FREEDOM'S SAKE
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
In my mind's eye, I see row after row,
Of crosses and Stars of David below,
Covering the peaceful, rolling countryside.
Each man's purpose was the same.
It was for the sake of freedom they came,
And for freedom every one of them died!
Dear God, they were so very young,
And "their song was not yet sung."
Their lives ended much too fast.
But, though they are dead and gone,
Their memory lingers on,
Over the many years that have passed!
"Twas for the Red, White, and Blue,
And a people they never knew,
That they laid their lives on the line!
Ah, hut it wasn't just for them, you know,
That the red blood did flow!
It was for everyone's freedom,
Including yours and mine!
Let us lift the banners high!
Their memory shall never die!
Long may the ship of freedom sail!
And wherever "Old Glory" flies,
Brave men will still rise,
That freedom may long prevail!

.AH, SPRING IS HERE!
F. Dotson © 2014
Ah, 'tis Spring! Oh, happy day!
Winter's cold is gone away!
The sky is blue! The grass is green,
And the flowers are the prettiest,
I've ever seen!
Their assorted hues of lavender, yellow, and red,
Adorn many a beautiful flower bed!
Also, wild flowers appearing here and there,
Sway in the warmer Springtime air!
Farmers plowng and sowing their fields,
Are hoping for greater annual yields!
Ah, soon there will be vast fields of green,
Planted with hay, corn, and soybeans!
'Tis Spring when a mother rabbit goes on a quest,
To find for her "younguns" a suitable nest!
Observant robins recognize the sound,
Of earthworms moving under the ground!
They then hop by to take a peak,
And quickly grasp them with their beak!
Friend, our God has decorated the land,
With beauties from His artistic hand!
Across the very face of Earth,
His creation is speaking of new birth!
Here and there are trees uith majestic blooms!
There are weddings with happy brides and grooms!
Ah, when these happenings appear,
My heart just sings for Spring is here!

WARRIORS OF FAITH
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Oh, to be like Enoch,
Who walked with God each day.
He drew so near. He got close
'Til he was called away.
Or, to be like Brother Noah,
Who found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
He saved himself and all his house,
By trusting in God's word.
Oh, to be like Abraham, friend of God,
Man of faith was he.
He was searching for that country,
That would last throughout eternity.
I'd even like to be like Jacob,
Though a supplanter at the start.
He found much grace. God changed his name,
And Israel received a new heart.
I'd like to be like Joseph,
That young man so wise and pure.
He was tempted by old satan,
And could have given in for sure.
Could I ever be like Moses?
Meekest man on earth was he.
He led Israel out. He stretched forth his rod,
And our God parted the sea.
I'd like a heart like Caleb.
"Give me this mountain", he declared.
Though it was infested with giants,
His God and Caleb were prepared.
Who was as mighty as Joshua?
He put on God's armour and sword.
He said, "As for me and my house,
We're going to serve the Lord."
I long to be like Samuel.
He said to God, "Here am I."
Though the priesthood was polluted,
He served Jehovah 'til he died.
Who can compare to King David,
"A man after God's own heart?"
No matter what others did,
He always took God's part.
Oh, to be like King Hezekiah.
He sought God with tears.
His prayer reached heaven. God changed his mind,
And gave him fifteen more years.
I must not forget to mention Daniel,
Or the Hebrews three.
The king built an idol and commanded them to worship,
But they would not bow the knee.
I've had many fine examples,
Down through the ages of time.
I have saved the greatest to speak of last.
He's that wonderful Redeemer of mine!
Oh, I long to be like Jesus, Mighty Counselor,
Son of God, Prince of Peace
Lily of the Valley, Bright and Morning Star,
Fairest of Ten Thousand is He!
A STROLL THROUGH THE WOODS
In my mind's eye, I see the fog like a shroud of lace,
Covering the river's face.
The sun above like a glowing ball of fire,
In the heavens climbs higher and higher!
The Eastern sky is beautiful with God's adorning!
It sure is a lovely morning!
Though I might expect this to be like any other day,
Time proves it to be unique in its own way!
In the woods tiny creatures stir,
Amongst the trees, pine, oak, beech and fir!
A sleepy-eyed horned owl, a creature of the night,
Blinks its eyes as if to say, "Who turned on the light?"
Chipmunks hurry and scurry here and there,
As the cawing of a flock of crows fills the air!
A spider's web gilded with dew catches my eye.
'Tis a trap for some unwitting fly!
Nearby, an army of ants get their exercise,
Moving a load many times their size!
Busy bees work hour after hour,
Extracting nectar from the heart of a flower!
I hear the sound of a babbling brook,
And stroll over to take a look!
I am amazed at its being so clear!
On the bank I see the footprints of a deer!
I gaze off to my right a hundred feet or so,
And see a baby fawn, a buck, and a doe!
As I cherish in my mind this beautiful scene,
In surroundings so serene,
I become as excited as a young boy,
Knowing God gave me this moment to enjoy!
===============================================================
DADDY AND ME
In my mind's eye I can see him yet,
Wipin' the sweat,
And holdin' on to the plow.
I learned from the start,
That if farmin' was an art,
My daddy sure knew how!
He tended the fields,
Producing the maximum yields.
Then, he gave the landowner half.
That's the way they would do.
Livestock was divided too,
Right down to a cow and her calf!
Daddy ruled our home with on iron hand,
Which was something I didn't understand,
And I still can't comprehend it all today.
But, to provide for us he wore his body out,
And without a doubt,
He must have loved us in his own way.
Back then "kids were to be seen and not heard!"
So, you had better not utter a sassy word,
Or you knew you would "get the belt!"
Yes, there were times when I sassed,
And the memories still last,
Of exactly how it felt!
With the assistance of the rod,
And a strong belief in God,
Daddy "kept me on the Straight and Narrow path!"
But, there came a day,
When I became old enough to stray,
And I subsequently suffered God's wrath!
However, when my days of roamin' were done,
This prodigal son,
Returned to the God of his dad!
And though I had wandered in sin,
God and Daddy took me in,
And treated me like I never had!
Daddy died in Nineteen and Eighty Seven,
Thank God, he awaits me in Heaven,
In a mansion beside a golden street!
So, onward I trod,
Keeping my strong faith in God,
With the realization that one day we shall meet!

WE MUST KEEP HOLINESS ALIVE!
They "blazed the trail" before us,
Those blessed servants of God,
Caring not for wealth nor fame,
As on this earth they trod!
The early Christians were persecuted.
Some were burnt at the stake.
Many were brutally slaughtered,
Solely for the Gospel's sake.
Though the world was not worthy of them,
They were tried and true!
They loved not their life to the finish,
And they "made it through!'
Friend, all down through the ages,
And even to the present day,
There has been a group of people,
Living "the Holiness way!"
Our forefathers were such people!
They suffered ridicule and shame.
But they kept on living "Holiness,"
Through faith in Jesus' name!
They were called "Holy Rollers,"
"Fanatics", and "Tongue gang" too.
Friend, their faithfulness then,
Has made it easier for me and you!
They were God's peculiar people,
Sanctified and set apart!
Sin was foreign to them!
They remained pure in heart!
They were praying people,
Always taking God at His word!
Their testimony to God's greatness,
Was all you ever heard!
They didn't have a lot of money.
No finery could be found.
So when they needed anything,
They always "prayed it down!"
They left us the greatest religious heritage,
Man has ever known!
We are reaping yet today,
From the seeds they had sown!
The "torch of Holiness" has been passed to us!
We must lift it high!
Oh, let us never lay it down,
Or cause its flame to die.
It will take great effort on our part,
With a love so pure and strong,
If we are ever going to be able,
To "pass this faith along!"
We can do it, one and all,
By "pressing our shoulder to the wheel!"
Then, when Jesus comes back to get us,
Folks will be living it still!
One generation shall praise Thy works to another, and shall declare
Thy mighty acts! Psalms 145:4 KJV

God has no respect of persons, it’s true.
He doesn’t love me more than He loves you.
Friend, down through the years I have found
That before God we all stand on equal ground!
He is always attentive to our cries!
There are no “big U’s” or little “i’s!”
And though we all are different, you see,
That’s how God made us to be.
God has no stepchildren, grandchildren, or in-laws!
And He doesn't recognize "a grandfather clause!"
God is not swayed by the power of men!
He doesn't condone anybody's sin!
Rich and poor, small and great,
All must enter at One Gate!
For God loves the rich and poor the same,
If they honestly call upon His name!
He will hear anybody when they pray,
If they don’t let pride stand in their way.
God offers freely to us all,
Pardon from sin which was created by “Adam’s fall.”
He invites us to come without money and buy,
Salvation which will completely satisfy!
He always answers when we call.
We just have to be free from sin, that’s all.
In my mind I can still hear Jesus say,
“I am the Truth, the Light, and the Way!”
P.S. I enjoy telling folks that God loves all of us the same.
But, He treats each one of us like an only child!
In His Service,
~Brother Bob~

LIBERTY
Seeing "Old Glory" waving high,
And proud against a clear blue sky,
Is a vivid reminder that people will die,
For Liberty.
Red and yellow, black and white,
Have joined together in the fight,
To champion the cause of right,
And Liberty!
So, with God, our Sovereign in command,
Let brotherhood reign across our land,
And forever we will joyfully stand,
For Liberty!

AH, SWEET MEMORIES!
Ah, sweet memories from my childhood,
Quite often I find,
Overcome life’s clutter,
And flow gently through my mind!
I remember sleeping ‘neath a tin roof,
To the rhythm of falling rain,
And waking the next morning,
With my young body free from pain!
I would lie there as the aroma,
Of Mama's bacon, eggs, and bread,
Came floating into my room,
And seemed to encircle my bed.
Back then, we ate a hearty breakfast,
With all the family there.
Then, we’d gather at the family altar,
For our daily morning prayer!
I remember being close to my cousins.
We sure had a good time!
Like typical boys,
We always loved to climb.
Quiet often our escapades,
Were not all that good,
For what one boy didn’t think of,
The other two would.
We often played “Andy Over,”
Or “tag” while it was still light.
Then, we’d go inside and play “I spy,”
Until bedtime that night!
Once my family made sorghum molasses,
Back in the Kentucky hills.
A mule provided the power,
To turn the sugar cane mill.
We put the syrup in an iron kettle,
And cooked it that night,
And when we tasted the finished product,
It was just right!
I remember church fellowship meetings,
With “dinner on the ground.”
No better food or fellowship,
Could anywhere be found!
I always enjoyed Vacation Bible School,
And the things we made.
It was there the foundation of the faith,
I have today was laid!
In Sunday School I listened,
As the stories unfolded from God’s word.
The story of David and Goliath,
Was the most exciting I’d ever heard!
But, the greatest story was about Jesus,
“The Man of Galilee,”
Who died a cruel death on Calvary,
To save a boy like me!

I thank God for the influence my precious mother had on my life. She gave her heart to God when I was just a small boy many years ago. I never saw her smoke a cigarette or heard her swear. Life wasn’t easy being a tenant farmer’s wife. But, she relied on God! When her children were sick she would ask God to heal them. We didn’t have the finer things in life. However, there was never a question in my mind that she loved me.
A PATTERN FOR ME
The blessed truth,
I learned in my youth,
Sustains me yet today!
For I was taught,
I must be blood-bought,
And walk the Straight and Narrow Way!
My precious Mother,
More than any other,
Was a positive influence on me.
In a world of sin and strife,
Her Godly life,
Was plain for all to see!
She was always there,
With intercessory prayer,
When she knew I was in need!
When my faith grew weak,
The Holy Ghost would speak,
With a message I must heed!
Many years have gone by,
But I still rely,
On the prayers she prayed for me!
Her desire still today,
Is that in every way,
I’ll be the man God wants me to be!

A LETTER FROM HOME!
I got another letter today,
From down Kentucky way!
Who it was from wasn't hard to tell!
I knew the handwriting very well!
For over a quarter of a century now,
Through good and bad times somehow,
My mother has so faithfully,
Most every week written to me.
"Dear Loved ones," the letters start.
Then, she begins to "pour out her heart."
Each letter will contain family news,
And pertinent religious views!
She writes about how good Christ has been,
He who forgave all of her sins!
Sometimes she will quote word for word,
Lines from a gospel song we've heard!
She always "encourages me in the Lord,"
As we both press forward toward our reward!
I love hearing from Mom and there are times when,
I read her letter all over again.
If Mom doesn't get my letter she will call,
So we can reassure her it's delayed, that's all!
Sometimes the mailman "gets his wires crossed,"
And Mom's letter seems to be lost.
But, it just turns out to be a mishandled letter,
And when it finally comes, I feel much better!
So, once more under Heaven's vast dome,
I've received a letter from Mom and home!
I wrote this poem back in 1994. I came upon it while I was looking
for the poem A PATTERN FOR ME.

IF I COULD WRITE A LOVE SONG
Lord, if I could write a love song,
I would sing it just for you!
It wouldn't be about a love gone wrong,
Or a heart that had proved untrue.
I would tell about all the good things,
You have done for me!
The changes You've made in my life, Lord,
I want the whole wide world to see!
Now, I'm nobody special.
I'm just a common man,
On my way to Heaven,
Trying to do the best I can.
But, when I get over in Glory,
And we've sung a song or two,
Somewhere in Eternity,
I want to sing my song for You!
So, I'm going to write that love song!
I'm going to choose my words just right.
I want to tell how You brought me out of darkness,
Into Your marvelous light!
I was headed for destruction,
'Til Your sweet love brought me through!
So, I will write that love song,
And I'll sing it just for you!

JESUS, THE SUPREME SACRIFICE
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Under the Law the High Priest could only appear,
Behind the veil of the temple once a year,
In an attempt Israel's sins to atone!
But, what would seem to be a flaw,
In that part of the Law,
Was that he must sacrifice for sins of his own.
So, a Permanent Sacrifice must be found,
For man, who God formed from the ground,
This Sacrifice must be Holy and pure!
Therefore, our Heavenly Father above,
Gave His only begotten Son in love,
A Love that shall evermore endure!
The blood of animals could never suffice,
To be the needed sacrifice!
At best it was just a covering for sin.
But, when Calvary's Lamb was slain,
The veil of the temple was rent in twain,
Now, through Jesus Christ we all may enter in!
When to the cross Jesus came,
And though "despising the shame,"
He remained God's dutiful Son!
Jesus never gave up,
And as He drank death's bitter cup,
He said, "Father, not My will but Thine be done!"
Friend, today the gospel call,
Goes out to one and all,
No matter how sinful or depraved!
Salvation is not just for some!
Whosoever will may come,
For God's desire is that all will be saved!

THE ROAD LEADS TO CALVARY
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Born in a stable in Bethlehem, He was destined to die on the cross.
Jesus took on Himself our sins and suffered the pain and loss!
The long road to Calvary started at Jesus' birth.
Yet, He went about doing good while He was here on earth!
The road led to the temple when He was but twelve years old!
He reasoned with the scholars who were stone-faced and cold!
Where he obtained this wisdom the chief priests and scribes could not see!
Was not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, the carpenter from Galilee?
Jesus came in contact with the poor as well as those who had fame!
Friend, after they had met Jesus, they were never the same!
Jesus gave hearing to the deaf and eyesight to the blind!
He loved the little children! He was so good and kind!
The winding road to Calvary led Jesus to a mountain high!
There he talked with Moses and Elijah about how He would die.
The road to Calvary led to Bethany where He raised the dead!
"Lazarus, come forth," were the words Jesus said!
The road later led to the lonely Garden of Gethsemane,
Where He asked His disciples, "Couldn't you watch one hour with me?'"
Jesus had handpicked his twelve disciples knowing that one day,
Judas with a kiss his Master would betray.
Jesus, who said, "Love thine enemies," without a shadow of a doubt,
Practiced the same love He was talking about!
For, there in the Garden of Gethsemane with His life coming to an end,
Though Judas was betraying Him with a kiss, Jesus called him "Friend."
The road to Calvary led to Pilate's judgment hall,
Where Pilate exclaimed, "In Him I find no fault at all."
But, though Jesus was innocent, Pilate sentenced Him to die.
"Away with Him," "Crucify Him," had been the mob's angry cry.
From Pilate's hall Jesus went to Calvary where the road came to an end!
They crucified Him between two thieves. He was without a friend.
But, when He cried, "It is finished," the world's sin debt was paid!
Judgment had demanded a payment and through mercy it was made!

THE MIRACLE OF MOUNT CALVARY
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
God so loved the world that He gave His Son to die,
A cruel death on Calvary for sinners like you and I!
Jesus, our Lord was willing His life to lay down!
He stepped from His throne and laid down His Heavenly crown!
He came as a little babe, a Heavenly King in the form of a man!
No other sacrifice was sufficient to fulfill Salvation's plan!
He lived a life of poverty so Heaven's riches we might enjoy!
Friend, salvation is free to every man, woman, girl, and boy!
Jesus took the road to Calvary knowing all the while,
By His friends He'd be forsaken when He walked that last mile!
What wondrous love and compassion on Calvary was displayed!
Jesus' blood became a fountain whereby our sin debt was paid!
The most elegant words of mortal man could never explain,
How the precious blood of Jesus can wash away sin's stain!
However, we don't have to understand but only believe,
And cleansing for our sins we shall receivel
The miracle of Mount Calvary is healing for the body and soul!
Now we may enter Heaven where we'll live while ages roll!

SCENES FROM MOUNT CALVARY
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Can you see Jesus hanging there?
Listen to His dying prayer,
"Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."
The reason our Blessed Saviour came,
Was to bear all our sin and shame,
Thus providing salvation for me and you!
As He hangs there dying,
The angry mob is crying,
"Crucify him, away with this man."
Can you hear them rant and rave,
"He saved others but himself He cannot save?"
Ah, but unfolding before us is God's redemption plan.
Jesus came unto His own and they received Him not.
Now Roman soldiers cast lots,
For, the very clothes our Saviour wore!
Jesus' physical appearance is so marred,
And terribly scarred,
More that any other man before!
When Jesus was suffering the worst,
He cried, "I thirst!"
Oh, the excruciating pain!
Then, just before He died,
"It is finished," He cried,
And the veil of the temple was rent in twain!
After three days in the ground,
Jesus' disciples found,
That He had risen true to His word!
Now both Gentile and Jew,
May receive salvation too,
Wherever the "Good News " is heard!

THE CRIMSON TIDE
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Three crosses stood on Calvary's brow.
It was Crucifixion Day.
In my mind's eye I can see them now,
On that hillside so far away.
"Father, forgive them," Jesus cried,
"They know not what they do."
And as the blood flowed from His side,
It brought redemption for me and you!
Roll on oh cleansing crimson tide,
Flow on forevermore!
On thee our ransomed souls shall ride,
'Til we reach Heaven's shore!

EASTER MORNING
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Mary and the others were in awe,
At what they saw,
That first Easter Day!
In the cool morning air,
They could only stare,
For someone had rolled the stone away!
Jesus’ body had been stolen they feared.
But, then Holy angels appeared,
Alleviating every misgiving!
“Jesus is no longer dead,”
The angels said!
“Behold, He has rejoined the living!”
Sister Mary run and tell,
Now Jesus is alive and well!
He conquered death, hell, and the grave!
‘Twas a critical hour.
But, by His mighty power,
He arose our souls to save!
Now, any member of Adam’s race,
Through God’s amazing grace,
Can rise up and joyously sing,
“Sin’s mighty flood,”
“Is under the blood!”
“Thank God, I’m a child of the King!

THE EMPTY TOMB!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
The tomb is empty!
Oh, what a glorious sight!
The long night has ended,
With the first rays of light!
The crucifixion is passed,
With its sorry and gloom.
Now hope springs eternal,
From the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
Our Lord conquered death!
He cried, "It is finished,"
With His final breath!
Yes, Christ was the Victor,
O'er death's impending doom!
Now we shall live forever,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
There's hope for tomorrow,
Beyond this world of sin,
Pain, and great sorrow!
For we have our Lord's promise,
Though storm clouds may loom,
Our future looks bright,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
So, let's go tell the story,
Of how our Lord was "caught up",
To His home in Glory!
He sent the Holy Ghost message,
To the upper room,
Signed, sealed, and delivered,
From the empty tomb!

JESUS LIVES!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Mary came to the sepulchre,
Awhile before dawn.
And finding it empty.
She alerted Peter and John,
That the tomb was empty,
Was a puzzling sight .
Jesus’ body wasn’t there,
Had someone stolen it,
During the night?
Ah, but all of His clothing,
Was lying in place,
Including the napkin,
Which had covered His face!
Wondering in their hearts,
What might have been,
Peter and John,
Returned home again.
Ah, but staying awhile longer,
Mary stood outside crying,
And took one more look,
At where Jesus’ body had been lying.
Then, she saw two angels,
Arrayed in white.
They certainly were,
An awesome sight!
“Why are you weeping?”
She heard the angels say.
Mary loudly lamented,
“They’ve taken my Lord away.”
As she turned to leave,
She met Jesus face to face!
But, she thought Him to be,
The gardener of that place.
“Woman, whom seekest thou,”
Jesus tenderly said.
She had forgotten Jesus teaching,
He would arise from the dead.
“Where have you laid Him,”
She continued to say.
But, then Jesus said, “Mary,”
In that old familiar way!
And immediately Mary was rid,
Of all sorrow and gloom!
She was renewed with vigor,
As she departed from the tomb!

WAIT FOR ME
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
If you should be the first to go,
It sure would cheer my heart to know,
That in Heaven,
Where the crystal waters flow,
You'll wait for me!
Through valleys low my path may wind.
But, Darling I won't mind,
If at my journey's end I find,
You waiting there for me!
However, it might be the case,
That I would outrun you in life's race.
If so Dear, I'll just find a resting place,
And wait for you!
Together we've felt,
The sunshine and the rain,
And shared the laughter and the pain.
So, this one fact shall remain,
I'll wait for you!

HERE’S MY HEART!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
I cannot offer you wealth or fame.
In the world’s social register,
There’s no mention of my name.
Dear, I want to be honest with you,
Right from the start.
I have no gold or silver.
But, I’ll give you my heart!
I can’t take you on vacation,
To London or Rome,
To show you Big Ben,
Or a cathedral’s majestic dome.
Our excursions in the future,
May be only a few miles apart.
But, I promise to stay close by you,
And give you my heart!
I’ll make every endeavor,
To be a Godly man,
And to love, honor, and protect you,
The best that I can.
Our love will be a symphony,
A beautiful work of art,
Created the very moment,
I give you my heart!

FRIENDSHIP
By Robert F. Dotson © 2014
"A friend loveth at all times!"
Oh, what a beautiful thought'
A friendship is "cultivated,"
But never, ever bought!
A friend is one who'll stand by you,
Even when clouds are dark and gray,
And be at your "beckon call,"
No matter what hour of the day!
A friend will lend a "listening" ear,
To a problem great or small,
And never tell what you've told them,
No matter "who" comes to call!
A friend will visit when you've missed church,
Or send a card your way.
They'll kneel before our God above,
And call out your name when they pray!
A friend will know when to come around,
When you're down and feeling blue,
And have the very words to say,
That God has sent to you!
A friendship doesn't have to cease,
When someone moves out of state!
You can spend some vacation time with them.
The fellowship is great!
Take in a couple of campmeetings,
And then visit one of God's creations!
Spend some "prayer time" together,
And strengthen those friendly relations!
The Bible plainly tells us if we want friends,
We must friendly be!
Friendships started down here on earth,
Can last eternally!
When a friend dies you love them still,
Although you're far apart!
Their memory and your love for them,
Remains inside your heart!
Although you may have many friends,
Another can't take their place,
And there is a longing in your heart,
To once more see their face!
There are friendships natural,
And also friendships divine!
Yes, some friends are so close,
That their very hearts entwine!
How wonderful it is for a man and his wife
To be joined together,
And remain good friends for life!
And yet, a greater friendship,
Is one with Jesus our Lord,
When we sweet communion find,
Together in one accord!
A friendship with Jesus,
Is far above any other!
Our Lord is a Friend,
That sticketh closer than a brother!"
He was our great example of friendship,
To the very end!
For greater love could no man have,
Than to lay down his life for his friends!
=====================================================================
IF TOMORROW COMES
If tomorrow comes once more I'll rise,
'Neath sunny or even stormy skies,
And thank God for another day!
It will be a day like no other,
With opportunities to help my Sister and Brother,
And sow some seeds of kindness along the way!
Each day I live is Heaven sent!
And this one will be wisely spent,
If I place everything in God's hands!
I cannot "do my own thing,"
And please my Lord and King.
His will must be my only plans!
If tomorrow comes I'll face that day,
In very much the same way,
I've faced so many others before.
For, as I step into the unknown,
I shall not be alone,
For I will enter through Christ, the Open Door!

THE OLD HOME PLACE
The young man took one long last look at the old home place.
Then he did an about face,
And slowly walked down the little country lane.
In the belltower the church bells began to toll,
Causing a loneliness in his soul.
But, he kept a straight face to mask the pain.
As he entered into a life of sin,
He realized if he ever make it home again,
Things would never be quite the same.
However, he was just thinking about here and now,
And though he didn't know how,
He planned on making himself a name!
Ah, it wasn't very long,
Until a life of wine, women, and song,
Produced moral and physical decay.
Every night he'd get high.
Then the next morning he would cry,
With a headache that just wouldn't go away.
Eventually, he was left without a friend.
And he had reached his rope's end,
When he heard about Jesus, God's Son!
He heard a street preacher say,
"Christ will wash your sins away,"
"And forgive you for every wrong you've done!"
So, he accepted Jesus into his life,
And he left behind all sin and strife,
And the insatiable urge to roam.
Then laying aside his foolish pride,
He "hitched" ride after ride,
In an attempt to reach his childhood home.
Oh, it was a cold and wintry night,
And he could barely see the light,
On the porch of the little house on the hill.
His face felt frozen and he could barely see.
Then he saw that old familiar oak tree.
It's location near the house he remembered still!
From the oak tree he crawled the last few feet,
Not knowing what kind of reception he would meet,
As he weakly knocked on the cabin door.
Ah yes, he could hear voices inside,
And as the door swung open wide,
The sight of home made his spirits soar!
Next he saw the most wonderful sight.
It was his Daddy with hair so white!
Big old tears were streaming down his face.
His precious Mommy stood by his side.
Then she lovingly replied,
"Son, things just haven't been the same,"
"Since you left the old home place."

A TRIP WITH MY FRIEND MEMORY
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Last night an old acquaintance,
Knocked upon my door.
It was my dear friend Memory,
Who came to visit me once more!
He said, "Old Pal my shiny train,”
“Is waiting at the track!"
So, I grabbed my hat, my coat, and my cane,
And we went flying back!
Back across the years we went,
To an old familiar place,
And there patiently waiting for me,
Was a most welcome face!
It was the lad that once was me,
Who met us with a grin!
Once more he embraced me tenderly saying,
"I knew you'd come again!"
We took a stroll down a country road.
Just Memory, the lad, and I,
And when we reached the little family abode,
I suppressed the urge to cry.
Next, we went to the little schoolhouse,
Where I learned to read and write.
Once more I saw my childhood friends,
Who were a pleasant sight!
It was no surprise each one of them,
Looked like they did before.
They sure were glad to see me!
They said so o'er and o'er!
We ran barefoot through a meadow,
And swung on the old grapevine!
This caused the joy to overflow,
Within this heart of mine!
We visited the little church,
Where I attended as a lad!
We worshiped there as a family,
Of this I sure am glad!
Then, I found myself wishing,
I wouldn't have to leave the past.
But, I knew deep inside of me,
This visit wasn't meant to last.
So, with an aching heart I embraced the lad,
As Memory called "All Aboard!"
Then, the speeding train whisked me away,
From the place I once adored!
Back in time we went quickly,
Over many, many years,
Then, I found myself in my easy chair.
My eyes were filled with tears.
But, it seemed I heard the lad say,
From somewhere in my heart,
"Be patient, for there will come a day,”
“When we'll never have to part!"

WHO WILL?
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
If we don't practice intercessory prayer,
And from our store house gladly share,
To prove to the world we really care,
Who will?
Though we may be going through our own trial,
If we don't give to our neighbor a smile,
While "going the extra mile,"
Who will?
As Christians and recipients of the Second Birth,
We represent the interests of God on this earth!
If we don't appreciate a lost soul's worth,
Who will?
Friend, lost souls are at stake.
If we do not a difference make,
nd win them for Heaven's sake,
Who will?
Friends and loved ones day by day,
Are turning their backs on the Narrow Way.
If we don't warn them not to stray,
Who will?

A RISKY RIGHTEOUS RENDEZVOUS
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
As I walked in the door,
The desk clerk said, "Good evening Senor,"
"May I be of assistance to you?"
Secrecy was a must!
Was he someone I could trust?
I searched his face for the smallest clue!
Due to the excessive heat,
My face was "as red as a beet!"
So, I asked for a place to sit down.
I assumed right away,
It was here I must stay,
Since it was the only hotel in town!
After catching my breath for awhile,
I said producing my best smile,
"I would like a room for the night."
"Sir, you may have room ten,"
"He said with a grin,"
"It's the second room on your right!"
The room sure was nice!
So I asked him the price,
But, he acted as though he hadn't heard!
Then, he whispered "Mr. Blue,"
"There's no cost to you,"
And he disappeared without saying another word!
I prayed an earnest prayer,
As I wondered how many other people out there,
Besides the desk clerk knew my name!
I was curious too,,
Just how much they knew,
Of the reason why I came.
Thoughts were running wildly through my head,
As I placed my suitcase under the bed,
And quickly turned around to find,
To my utter surprise,
I beheld a pair of eyes,
Staring at me through the Venetian blind!
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door!
So, I walked across the floor,
And slowly opened it wide!
There before me a nervous stronger stood,
Who asked if he could,
Please come inside!
I said, "Sure, come on in,"
And he said with a grin,
"I'm your contact, Mr. Blue!"
"Our every move is being traced!"
"We must make haste!"
"Did you bring the Bibles with you?"
When I handed him the suitcase he looked inside,
And his face was glowing with pride,
As his eyes filled up with tears!
He said, "I guess it's plain to see,
"That this means so much to Me!"
"We've waited for these Bibles for years!"
He didn't seem to have anything else to say.
So, he turned away,
And was engulfed by the darkness of the night!
Due to all of the excitement I hadn't seen,
My waiting limousine!
So, you can be assured it was a welcome sight!
I rushed to it and quickly closed the door!
Then, with a mighty roar,
We sped toward a waiting plane!
Never in my whole life had I known,
Such a feeling of being alone.
My friends would have considered me insane.
As the plane left the ground,
It could easily have been downed,
By the steady ring of gunfire.
But, we all said a prayer,
As we sped through the air,
And steadily climbed higher and higher!
Now as I stand looking out over the bay,
Thinking of the preceding day,
That transpired on a foreign shore,
I thank God for His marvelous grace,
In helping me escape from that place!
But, somehow I wish I could have done more!

IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Although troubles and trials,
May fill my life's last few miles,
And heavy may be my load,
Though my strength be almost gone,
I shall journey on,
With Jesus toward my heavenly abode!
Why should circumstances be different for me,
Than they were for the Hebrews Three,
Daniel, or Silas, and Paul?
I too am a man,
And according to God's plan,
We're His children one and all!
Though unlike these men,
I've not faced fire or a lion's den,
Or been imprisoned in a Roman jail,
Before I end life's race,
These similar problems I may face.
How soon it will happen is hard to tell.
Ah, but as a Christian my future is bright!
For some morning, noon, or night,
My Lord will call for me!
Whether I'm raptured in the twinkling of an eye,
Or I live to “a ripe old age” and die,
With Christ I shall forever be!
So, if I face great peril and strife,
And for Christ's sake I must give my life,
My reward shall outweigh my trials here!
For when I stand before the King,
My happy soul shall sing,
As all memories of earth shall disappear!

SUCH IS LIFE
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Life is filled with changes it seems,
With broken hearts and shattered dreams.
Things seldom work out the way I planned.
But, these temporal things can't touch my soul!
My eyes are fixed on my eternal goal!
Heaven will be a much better land!
Loved ones often break my heart.
At times my world seems to be falling apart.
But, I'll understand it better by and by.
Ah yes, I'm tempted to run and hide.
But, I must struggle up life's mountain side.
Its pinnacle seems to reach the sky.
I've had my share of trouble and sorrow.
Sometimes I dread to face tomorrow.
Often warm tears run down my face.
But, though my emotions may run wild,
I have no doubt I'm still God's child!
With every situation He provides sufficient grace!

I’M GOING BACK HOME
Robert F. Dotson © 2014
Why I left my father’s house,
I can never tell.
There was food aplenty,
And I was treated well!
I wore princely garments!
There were shoes upon my feet!
I held a place of honor!
Life for me was sweet!
Ah, but satan placed within my heart,
A longing to roam.
Then, when I gave into its bidding,
It took me far from home.
Sin’s pleasures for a season,
Were wine, women, and song.
I ate, drank, and was merry.
But, that was not to be for long.
You see, I ran out of money.
So, my so called friends left me behind.
So, I went to the nearest farm,
Employment to find.
The farm’s owner lived in a mansion,
With furnishings so fine.
The only job he could offer me,
Was feeding his hungry swine.
In desperation I accepted his offer,
With a heart full of dread.
I was almost delirious,
As thoughts of home ran through my head.
Did not my father’s servants,
Have plenty to eat,
While I, his youngest son,
Had no shoes upon my feet?
So, I determined to go back to my father,
Saying, “I can no longer be your son.”
“How could you ever forgive me,”
“For the awful things I’ve done?”
“I have so little to offer you.”
“But, what I have I humbly bring.”
“I’m only a lowly pauper,”
“Approaching a great king.”
“I feel so ashamed.”
“So unworthy am I”
“As I kneel in your presence,”
“Please hear my humble cry.”
Then, my father lovingly kissed me,
Saying, “Son, I’ve prayed much on your behalf.”
“My son which was dead,”
“Is now alive!”
“Let’ go kill the fatted calf!”
Now, I’m back where I belong!
I’ve gained my rightful place!
Within my heart there is a song!
It’s called “Amazing Grace!”
