JUST A BROKEN EARTHEN VESSEL
A broken earthen vessel was I,
Cast along life's roadside to die.
There was no peace in my thirsty barren soul.
But, then the King of Glory came in,
And freed me from the debt of my sin!
Now, I'll be His while eternal ages roll!
I know the Master Potter that day,
Could have just tossed me away.
But, He handled me with tender love and care!
Jesus' precious presence I could feel,
As He gently placed me on the wheel,
And I became a vessel of honor there!
Now, I'm a child of the King!
So, praise to His name I shall bring,
As long as my time on earth shall be!
Then, in a Fairer and Better Land,
With the countless millions I shall stand,
In honor to the One Who died to set us free!

A CALL TO ARMS!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2019
Here’s your sword and shield.
You’re needed on the battlefield.
Hasten, there’s no time for delay!
Oh, hear your fellow soldiers cry,
“We will fight on ‘til we die,”
“Then be rewarded at the ending of day!”
Veteran soldiers have been called out.
They left here with a shout!
They’ve gone on to receive their just reward!
They were examples for me and you,
And we can be victors too,
If we go forth in the name of the Lord!
Ah, we have lingered much too long,
And now the enemy has grown strong.
So, we must rise up bravely in God’s might!
Let’s raise the blood-stained banner high.
For when it’s waving in the sky,
It tells the satan we have just begun to fight!
We must never lay our armor down,
For soon we’ll receive our robe and crown,
And be part of the Blessed Savior’s bride!
Far beyond the battle’s roar,
On that everlasting shore,
We’ll stand forever by His side!

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!
Robert F. Dotson ©2019
Enoch enjoyed walking with God,
While here on this earth he trod!
They walked so closely day after day,
'Til God said, "Come home with Me for aye!"
Enoch dared to be different!
Abraham dwelt in Ur of the Chaldees.
He wanted very much his God to please!
God said, "Leave your kin and those who know you," "And go to a land which I will show you!"
So, Abraham his God did obey,
And He started on his way!
By and by, Abraham, Sarah, and Lot his nephew,
Came, to Canaan's Land like God said to do!
God prospered them and Abraham was glad!
So, he thanked God for all he had!
Things went quite well 'til their servants began to fight! Then, Lot left for Sodom and Abraham did right! Abraham dared to be different!
Moses was in the bulrushes crying,
While in the land of Egypt Hebrew children were dying, Almighty God heard little Moses' pitiful cry,
And sent Pharoah's daughter passing by!
Then, Moses became a part of the household of the king! And he didn't want for anything!
But, Moses refused "the pleasures of sin for a season!"
He gave it all up for a very good reason!
Moses dared to be different!
Young Samuel was raised in Eli's household.
Eli's sons were wicked and bold.
Samuel could have "fallen in with" Eli's boys!
But, early in life he had made God his choice!
Samuel dared to be different
On one mountain side camped the Israelites!
Not a man among them had the courage to fight!
On the other mountain were the Philistines,
With their champion, Goliath!
He was wicked and mean.
The only hope the Israelites had,
Was young David, the shepherd lad!
David took five smooth stones and a sling in his hand, And with the help of God, slew the giant of a man! David dared to be different!
Elijah, the prophet was "tried and true!
He always did what God said to do!
His challenge to the Israelites one day,
Was, "Is it God or Baal?" "What do you say?"
Now, Baal's prophets were Queen Jezebel's own.
And to the natural eye, Elijah stood alone!
But, God gave His lone prophet his heart's desire,
When He answered his prayer with consuming fire! Elijah dared to be different!
The prophet, Jeremiah, God's word did keep!
Each time he prophesied, he would weep!
He predicted the fall of Jerusalem,
According to the word of the Great I Am!
Jeremiah's prophecy proved to be good and sound!
For not one of his words "fell to the ground!"
Jeremiah dared to be different!
True to God's word, Jerusalem fell because of sin!
Later, God told Nehemiah to build it again!
He kept on working! There wasn't time to mess around! He said, '"The work is too great! I cannot come down!' Nehemiah dared to be different!
The old king had Daniel thrown in the lion's den, Because he valued God's laws more than those of men! But, God locked the lion's jaws up real tight,
And Daniel slept safely all through the night!
Daniel dared to be different!
One day, the king said "The time is now!
"Before my idol everyone must bow!"
"Those who don't in the furnace must go!"
Immediately, the trumpets began to blow!
But, the Hebrew children served a "God much higher," Who walked with them in the midst of the fire!
With the heat of the fire, their fetters fell,
And they came out of the furnace without a smell!
The three Hebrew children dared to be different!
In the past, God's people have been a witness, Friend! They have served God right down to the very end!
So, in the age which we are Living,
Even though sometimes we may have misgivings!
We must show the world a guiding light,
And help them discern the wrong from the right!
We must dare to be different!

LIBERTY
Robert F. Dotson ©2019
Seeing “Old Glory” waving high,
And proudly ‘neath a clear blue sky,
Is a vivid reminder that people will die,
For Liberty.
From the glory days of old,
We still hear the stories told,
Of heroes who waxed brave and bold,
For Liberty!
Red and yellow, black and white,
Have joined together in the fight,
To champion the cause of right,
And Liberty!
So with God, our Sovereign in command,
Let brotherhood reign across our land!
Then, together we shall ever stand,
For Liberty!
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. GOD SAVE AMERICA!

.......... A TIME FOR REAPING!
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
In our youth the seeds we sow,
Ultimately grow.
Then, come harvest we must go to the field!
For we surely know,
We shall reap what we sow!
Quite often it is an abundant yield!
Ah, a young person in their prime,
Takes no thought of the time,
When the seeds they have carelessly sown,
Will unmercifully taunt them,
And come back to haunt them,
When they are finally grown.
In the Bible I have read,
Where King Solomon said,
"Remember thy Creator,"
" In the days of thy youth!"
And I can honestly say,
That even in our present day,
His words are still precious truth!
So, young girl or boy,
If sowing "wild oats" you enjoy,
Let me make you fully aware,
That when it comes time for reaping,
You will surely be weeping.
Believe me young friend, I've been there.
Let the deeds you do,
Speak highly of you.
For your life is an open book!
In God's Spirit abide,
Then God will be satisfied,
When He comes to take a look!

THE CRIMSON TIDE
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
Three crosses stood on Calvary's brow.
It was Crucifixion Day.
In my mind's eye I can see them now,
On that hillside so far away.
“Father, forgive them,” Jesus cried.
“They know not what they do.”
Then, as the blood flowed from His side,
It brought redemption for me and you!
Roll on, oh cleansing, crimson tide!
Flow on forevermore.
On thee our ransomed souls shall ride,
Until we reach Heaven's shore!
=======================================
THE EMPTY TOMB!
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
The tomb is empty!
Oh, what a glorious sight!
The long night has ended,
With the first rays of light!
The crucifixion has passed,
With its sorrow and gloom!
Now hope springs eternal,
From the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
Our Lord conquered death!
He cried, “It is finished,”
With His dying breath!
Yes, Christ was the Victor,
O'er death's impending doom!
Now, we'll live forever,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty,
Bringing hope for tomorrow,
Beyond this world of sin,
Pain, and great sorrow!
Ah, we have our Lord's promise,
Though storm clouds may loom,
Our future is bright,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
Let's go tell the story!
Christ has been caught up,
To His home in Glory!
He sent the Holy Ghost message,
To the upper room,
Signed, sealed, and delivered,
From that empty tomb!

JESUS, THE SUPREME SACRIFICE!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2019
Under “The Law,”
The high priest could only appear,
Behind the veil of the temple,
Once a year,
In an attempt,
Israel's sins to atone.
But, what would seem to be a flaw,
In that part of The law,
Was that he must sacrifice,
For sins of his own.
So, a Permanent Sacrifice,
Must be found,
For mortal man,
Who God formed from the ground.
This Sacrifice, Must be Holy and pure!
Therefore, our Heavenly Father above,
Sent His only begotten Son in love,
A love that will evermore endure!
The blood of animals could never suffice,
To be the needed sacrifice.
At its very best,
It was just a covering for sin.
But, When “Calvary's Lamb” was slain,
The veil of the temple was rent in twain!
Now, through Jesus Christ,
We may all enter in!
When to the cross Jesus came,
And while despising the shame,
He remained God's dutiful Son!
Jesus never gave up,
As He drank Death's bitter cup,
He said, “Father, not my will,”
“But, Thine be done!”
My friends, today the gospel call,
Goes out to one and all,
No matter how sinful or depraved.
Salvation is not just for some!
Whosoever will may come,
For God's desires is for all to be saved!

A CANDLE IN THE NIGHT
By Robert F. Dotson © 2019
Dear Lord, let me be,
A candle in the night!
For, I want this wicked world,
To see the light.
They don’t need to know my name,
I just want them,
To see Your flame,
Shining ever so bright!
Lord, I just want to be,
Completely hidden in Thee.
Fill me with power from above!
In this troubled land,
Let me extend a helping hand,
Reaching out with the light of Your love!
So, light my candle Lord,
With fire from your altar!
Oh, let the message shine out,
Near and far.
Jesus is a Savior,
Who is so meek and lowly.
Just call His name,
And He’ll come to where you are!

Today is my our 56th wedding anniversary! I wrote the following poem several years ago to
honor my Sweetie!
HERE'S MY HEART!
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
I cannot offer you,
Wealth or worldly fame.
On the world's social register,
There's no mention of my name.
I want to be honest with you,
Right from the start,
I don't have much gold or silver,
But, I'll give you my heart!
I can't take you on vacation,
To London or Rome,
To admire “Big Ben”,
Or a cathedral's majestic dome.
Our travels in the near future,
May be only miles apart.
But, I promise to stay close by,
And give you my heart!
I will do my very best,
To be a Godly man,
And love and protect you,
The best that I can.
Our love will be a symphony,
A beautiful work of art,
Starting the very moment,
I give you my heart!

A BRAND NEW ME!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2019
Come my friends and rejoice with me,
For this I surely know,
From my sins I've been set free!
My soul is as white as snow!
I've lost the passion for earthly things.
The old life has been left behind!
"How great Thou art, " my happy heart sings,
For I've found such peace of mind!
With mere words I could never explain,
This wonderful feeling in my heart!
Gone are the sorrow, heartaches, and pain,
Which made the teardrops start!
In their place I've joyfully found,
Contentment like I've never known!
My spirit has been lifted to higher ground,
Since Christ has made me His own!
God daily supplies all my needs,
From His storehouse up above!
So, I will follow wherever He leads,
And pledge my undying love!

Even though I wrote this poem several years ago, I still have fond memories of my relationship with my two cousins.
AND THEN, THERE WERE TWO
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
We were the Musketeers three,
Arnold, Charlie, and me!
We were close as brothers in many ways!
We were "as thick as thieves" back then,
Before we cousins became men,
Way back in the "good old days!"
We were just typical lads.
We weren't all that bad.
We'd just do things mischievous boys do!
We liked to have fun!
But, some of the things that were done,
I'm glad our parents never knew!
I remember even now,
How we would ride Grandpa's cow!
That was just one of the things we'd do.
We would also make trips,
To take a couple of sips,
Of Grandpa's apple cider brew!
On Sunday afternoons we might slip,
Off to the creek to "take a dip,"
Although I wasn't supposed to go!
But, it sure was fun,
And when all was said and done,
I guess that's why I enjoyed it so!
Ah, but the years quickly flew by,
And Arnold, Charlie, and I,
All married and our ways began to part!
Each one of us "settled down!"
I moved to a far away town!
But, fond memories linger in my heart.
Recently, Charlie passed away,
They laid him 'neath the cold Kentucky clay,
In a graveyard surrounded by our kin.
Now there's only Arnold and me,
Of the Musketeers A, B, and C.
I hope in Heaven we three will meet again!
The requirements for Heaven are the same,
No matter our name,
Or who happens to be our kin!
To Calvary we must go,
And one dip 'neath the crimson flow,
Will wash away each and every sin!

BY GONE DAYS
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
In the little white church nestled among the trees,
Many a sinner found a haven on their knees,
Down at the altar, that special place,
God would impart His amazing grace!
In churches where folks would shout and pray,
It is virtually unheard of today.
Folks in most denominations would shout,
They knew what the power of God was all about.
Gone are the tent meeting days we knew so well,
Where a stern-faced preacher,
Would depict the horrors of hell.
Sinners by the numbers would weep and wail,
As they made their way down "the sawdust trail."
Gone are revivals of several week's length,
Where the body of Christ,
Would renew her strength.
Gone are the days of "the healing line,"
Where folks found healing,
For body, spirit, and mind.
The Great Physician would be called on the case,
And diseases would be gone without a trace.
After folks got saved it was not strange,
For them to make a complete change.
Hard-hearted sinners would become meek,
And submit to baptism in a nearby creek!
Those days are in the past,
But I give God praise,
For precious memories of those by-gone days!
Yes, nowadays these happenings we rarely see.
But, God is the same.
So, the change is in you and me.

CHILDREN
Robert F. Dotson © 2019
Children are a special gift,
Sent from God above!
We are only lent them for awhile,
To have, to hold, and to love.
So, let us do our very best,
With tender love and care,
To welcome them into our family,
For God has placed them there!
====================================
AS FOR ME AND MINE
There are abundant living waters,
For our sons and daughters,
Flowing from the throne of grace!
There’s Holy ghost power,
For each trying hour,
Of the problems they will face!
Friend, I’m glad to say,
God’s promises today,
Are the same as in days gone by!
Our Heavenly Father above,
Will extend to them His love,
If to Him they will cry!
As parents we must be bold,
Like Joshua of old,
Who took into account His final reward!
With a determination divine,
He said, “As for me and mine,”
“We will serve the Lord!”
If we train them the right way,
For awhile they may go astray,
Or their relationship with God may grow cold.
But, if they get Holiness in their heart,
They will never depart,
When they’re growing old!

NOW IS THE TIME!
Robert F. Dotson 2018
Have you a word of kindness to speak?
Speak it now!
Can you help a brother that's weak?
Do it now!
Now is the only time we may own.
Encouraging words can be spoken by phone!
We must love everybody, not just our own.
Call them now!
Today is the day of salvation.
Act now!
We must show our dedication.
Now!
There is a need for sowing seed.
You will be richly rewarded indeed!
Go forth the spiritually hungry to feed.
Go now!
It is a precious time for growing!
Warm winds now are blowing!
Water the seeds that you've been sowing!
Do it now!
The fields are all planted just right!
Tender young plants are a beautiful sight!
It won't be long until it is night.
Labor now!
Do you have an aught against your brother?
Jesus said to love one another.
Fix it now.
We must show love for friends or foes,
While following Jesus wherever He goes.
He's our Great Leader and Pattern you know!
Follow now!
Is there someone you love?
Tell them now!
Love comes from God above!
Tell them now!
Stand tall young man next to your bride.
Both of you must in Christ abide,
Until Heaven's gates swing open wide!
Abide now!
We all have been given a light to shine.
Your light isn't brighter than mine.
But, great is the beam when our lights combine! Let's shine now!
There is so much work to be done.
We cannot stop until the setting of the sun.
Only then is our victory won.
Labor now!
Countless souls are being lost.
We must point them to Calvary's cross.
Now!
Our time on earth is quickly passing away. Minutes and hours turn into days.
The blood-stained banner we must raise!
Raise it now!
We all have an offering of praise to bring.
It is a sweet smelling savor for our King!
We will cause others to shout and sing,
If we do it now!
Say not I'll do it on the morrow.
That could cause useless sorrow.
Friend, we have no time to borrow.
The time is now!
Oh, youth have you a song to sing?
Sing it now!
Have you a message for the world to bring?
Bring it now!
Serve the the Lord with your whole being!
There are many songs to sing!
Many have never heard of Jesus, your King.
Tell them now!

GOD HELP US BRING THEM IN!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2019
For one hundred and twenty years,
Brother Noah preached God’s word.
But, folks went on their merry way,
As if they had never heard.
For in their eyes this Holiness preacher,
Just ranted and raved.
So, when God sent final judgment,
Only Noah and his family were saved.
In our day, as clouds gather around us,
And the sky is growing dark,
We too must gather our families,
And enter God’s ark.
Even now the rain is falling,
On this wicked world of sin.
Oh, God come to our rescue,
And help us bring our children in.
Satan has made inroads in our homes,
And it’s breaking our hearts,
As the very fabric of our families,
Is being torn apart.
Lord, help us as parents,
To be faithful and true,
As we point the way to deliverance,
That only comes from You!
Our children have no time to waste.
A decision they must make.
The timing is critical,
For their eternal soul is at stake.
Oh God, we’re depending on Your promise,
That if we train them right,
One day, we’ll live to see them,
Walking in the light!

*IF TOMORROW COMES*
*By Robert F. Dotson © 2018 *
*If tomorrow comes once more I'll rise,*
*'Neath sunny or even stormy skies,*
*And thank God for another day!*
*It will be a day like no other,*
*With opportunities to help,*
* My Sister and Brother,*
*And sow some seeds of kindness,*
* Along the way!*
*Each day I live is Heaven sent!*
*And this one will be wisely spent,*
*If I place everything in God's hands!*
*I cannot "do my own thing,"*
*And please my Lord and King.*
*His will must be my only plans!*
*If tomorrow comes I'll face that day,*
*In very much the same way,*
*I've faced so many others before.*
*For, as I step into the unknown,*
*I shall not be alone,*
*For I will enter through Christ, *
*The Open Door!*

JESUS, THE PRINCE OF PEACE!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Peace on earth and goodwill to men,”
Shepherds heard the angels say,
And the very same peace they spoke of then,
Abides with us today!
The child Who in a manger lay,
On that first Christmas morn,
to wash our sins away!
It was the reason He was born!
Ah, though wars are threatening all around,
And violence takes its toll,
Jesus sweet peace can still be found,
For our immortal soul!
No, we did not hear the angels sing,
Nor did we follow a star.
We did not our special presents bring,
After traveling oh so far.
But, we too can worship the Prince of Peace!
We may kneel down at His feet!
There our soul shall find release,
For His presence is so sweet!
====================================
JESUS, THE HEAVENLY GIFT
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Christmas is the time of year,
For giving gifts and spreading cheer!
It is the season of peace, joy, and love!
Ah, but we must always remember the reason,
We cerebrate this season,
Is God sending His Son from Heaven above!
'Twas on this wonderful day,
In a land far away,
In a tiny village called Bethlehem,
That a virgin gave birth,
To the Savior of all the earth,
Jesus, the Son of the Great I Am!
Ah yes, from the eldest to the least,
Let us enjoy the Christmas feast!
Let's be merry and cheerful from the start!
But at the same time,
We can know the joy sublime,
Of having Jesus living in our heart!
The Christmas story has often been told,
Yet it never grows old,
Though I've heard it since I was a lad!
Back then when I prayed and believed,
And salvation's gift I received,
It was the best gift I have ever had!
====================================
WHEN AUTUMN LEAVES BEGIN TO FALL
When Autumn leaves begin to fall,
My heart hears the familiar call,
To that lonely little graveyard on the hill.
So, I'll go there once again,
Because of love for my kin.
And as long as I live I surely will.
Ah, time has made a change in me.
I'm not as spry as I used to be.
One day soon I shall lie neath the cold, cold, ground.
But, I shall not be there for aye!
For come Resurrection Day,
I'll rise up with Gabriel's trumpet sound!
Yes, I may soon be lying still,
In a graveyard on a hill.
But, only my body will be there!
When they place me beneath the sod,
My soul shall fly away to God,
Where I shall dwell in sweet Heaven fair!
You see, I'm just a pilgrim here on this earth,
A nomad by birth,
Seeking a far better land!
I have only one thing on my mind,
And one glorious day I shall find,
That beautiful country built by God's own hand!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018

I am so thankful for the freedoms we Americans enjoy! In my estimation, ours is the greatest nation on earth! God Bless America!

SMILE, YOU'RE THE KING'S KID!
Robert F. Dotson 2018
Has old man trouble got you down,
Changing your smile into a frown?
Well, I've got good news for you my friend!
God loves and cares for you!
So, He will come to your rescue,
And your worries will come to an untimely end!
Is that you with your head bowed low,
Having those feelings of woe,
With nothing but the blues to sing?
Come on and lift your head up high!
You don't have to be shy,
For you are a child of the Heavenly King!
God is aware of your plight.
You are precious in His sight!
His Son, Jesus gave His live for you!
So, when life's mountains seem high,
He will draw nigh,
And see you safely through!
====================================
GOOD MORNING, LORD!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Lord, I can find no better way,
Of starting each and every day,
Than kneeling down to say,
"Good Morning, Lord!"
"I want my soul "fine tuned,"
"So I will be aware,"
"That you can be easily reached,”
"Through the "avenue of prayer!"
"May the only intents,"
"Of my heart be upright,"
"And the work of my hands,"
"Be righteous in Thy sight!"
"I want my mind to be washed,"
"With Thy precious blood!"
"Let your Holy Spirit be the Standard,"
"Which stops Satan's flood!"
"Oh Lord, let my life be a reflection,"
"Of Thy great light,"
"As it shines on the paths of men!"
"So they can be led from the darkest night,"
"And the awful gulf of sin!"
"Oh, Creator of Earth below and Heaven above,"
"Create a Holy desire in me!"
"Renew my Spirit with Thy love,"
"As my soul becomes one with Thee!
"Let the words of my mouth,"
"From the depths of my heart be spoken,"
"And as I make my vows to Thee,"
"May they never be broken!"
"Though the storm clouds gather,"
"And strong winds blow,"
"I shall not fear or quake,"
"For Thou will deliver me I know,"
"Even, for Thine own name's sake!"
"May my eyes be always fixed on the Heavenly Goal," "And my ears be attuned to hear,"
"Thy voice as it whispers to my soul,"
"Behold, My coming is near!"
====================================
HOMECOMING DAY!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
From the sounds that I hear,
I know Christ's coming is so near,
For strong winds blow,
And earthquakes shake the ground!
The word of God is true,
He's coming back for me and you!
In the rapture,
We will be Heaven bound!
In many places our people are dying.
It seems that violence appears on every hand.
We try to comfort loved ones who are crying.
But, it's plain to see they just don't understand.
Signs of the time point to Christ's returning!
With a shout He'll come to catch His bride away!
In my heart now this message keeps turning,
Don't lose hope child,
Soon it will be "Homecoming Day!"
====================================
WHO WILL?
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
If we don't practice intercessory prayer,
And from our store house gladly share,
To prove to the world we really care,
Who will?
Though we may be going through our own trial,
If we don't give to our neighbor a smile,
While "going the extra mile,"
Who will?
As Christians and recipients of the Second Birth,
We represent the interests of God on this earth!
If we don't appreciate a lost soul's worth,
Who will?
Friend, lost souls are at stake.
If we do not a difference make,
And win them for Heaven's sake,
Who will?
Friends and loved ones day by day,
Are turning their backs on the Narrow Way.
If we don't warn them not to stray,
Who will?

NO GREATER LOVE
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
As here on earth we trod,
We are blessed with the unmerited favor of God,
Otherwise known as amazing grace!
Through good works we cannot obtain,
Aught to wash away sin's stain.
Nothing can take the blood's place.
When Jesus' blood from Calvary ran,
It effectively created a span,
Across the gulf of created by sin!
Although centuries have come and gone,
The cleansing still goes on,
Reaching whosoever will enter in!
Our salvation has no purchase price.
However, a monumental sacrifice,
Was needed to set us free.
So, the Son of the Great I am,
Jesus, Calvary's Spotless Lamb,
Gave His life for the likes of you and me!
It is so wonderful to know,
Jesus' blood can still flow,
Down through the thousands of years!
Yes, His blood's crimson flow,
Washes sinners as white as the driven snow,
And instantly their guilt disappears!
I know this is true,
For I stand before you,
As an example of God's saving grace!
You see, condemned I once stood,
In me there was no good.
But, Jesus died in my place!

I BELIEVE.......
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Folks think I'm "from the old school,"
Or of the conservative lot.
Some would think I'm a fanatic,
Like as not!
But, I take the Bible literally,
Every word I have read!
I believe God said what He meant,
And meant what He said!
I love the King James version!
It's the only one for me!
I don't even mind,
If it says Thou and Thee!
My Bible says Mary was a virgin!
It was according to God's plan!
Had she been just another "young woman," Jesus was only a man.
Yes, I believe in the deity of Jesus,
The Supreme Sacrifice,
Who died for me on Calvary,
So I could be "born twice!"
I believe Jesus was, is,
And shall forever be equal with God,
And that He was present,
When man was created from the sod!
I believe in the divinity of Christ,
The depravity of man,
And that salvation,
Changes lives like nothing else can!
I believe salvation is offered,
To "whosoever will may come!"
It doesn't matter who you are,
Or where you're from!
I believe in water baptism,
After first being saved,
Putting off "the old man,"
And being well behaved!
I believe in taking communion,
The bread and the wine,
And washing my brother's feet,
And him washing mine!
I believe in divine healing,
For by Christ's stripes we are healed!
When we put our faith in Him,
His healing power is revealed!
I believe in "good Holiness living,”
And that there is no doubt,
If it's practiced within,
It's bound to show without!
The Holy Ghost at Pentecost,
Was an indication of good things to come!
I believe He is a gift for everyone,
Not just for some!
I believe in the soon coming of Jesus!
'Twill be a glorious day,
When spotless saints stand before Him,
In robes of white array!
Oh Friend, I know His coming,
Will my longing heart relieve!
Only then will I fully realize,
The reason I believe!

CHOOSE ETERNAL LIFE!
By Robert F. Dotson ©2018
So fragile and frail,
Life is but a tale,
That's told.
As up life's hill we climb,
We can't buy a moment's time,
With silver or with gold!
The rich and the poor,
Enter the same door,
And they leave with empty hands.
The rules of life's game,
For both of them are the same,
No matter how lofty their plans!
In but a short life span,
This creature called man,
Will make preparation to go,
Either to that beautiful land,
At God's right hand,
Or the terrible regions below.
If you make the right choice,
There will be a cause to rejoice,
As you enter into the joys of the Lord!
But, oh what a mistake,
If the wrong choice you make,
For hell will be your eternal reward.

BACK THEN
By Robert F. Dotson ©2018
When I was young and in my prime,
It was a far better world,
And a slower pace of time!
Neighbors came to your rescue,
Because that's what friends are for!
And, nobody ever had to lock a door!
My family wouldn't have thought,
Of starting our day,
'Til we had a chance to read our Bible and pray!
One morning our prayer time,
Lasted longer than most!
You see, Daddy prayed through,
To the Holy Ghost!
He began to speak in tongues which tickled us,
And my sister, Lucy and I missed the school bus!
Daddy was a tenant farmer,
So the landlord got half,
Whether it was an acre of tobacco,
Or a newborn calf!
We would rise in the morning before the sun,
Often it was dark when the work was all done! Sometimes, we would go back,
To the stripping room at night,
And strip tobacco under an electric light!
Friend, we were considered poor,
But we had plenty to eat,
For my Mom's cooking just couldn't be beat!
We had a roof over our heads,
And clothes to wear,
And a God who always answered our prayers!
Ah, times were often hard,
But God was on our side!
We found he was a Shelter,
In which we could hide!
We believed God,
For even the simplest things each day!
When trouble came,
We would just pray!
Friend, the faith I have today,
As I feast upon God's truth,
Was planted in my heart,
In the days of my youth!

Some of the poems God has inspired me to write are what I call "Story" poems! The following poem is one of them!
COAL MINER'S SON
By Robert F. Dotson ©2018
Jake would rise each morning,
Before the sun began to shine,
Take his pick and shovel,
And head for the mine!
Though he dug and loaded coal,
For sixteen hours a day,
"Script," for the company store,
Was his paltry pay!
The best years of his life,
This young man gave!
It was plain to see,
He was the mine owner's slave!
Life in the coal camp,
Was anything but Heaven,
For this young miner,
And father of seven!
Jake and his young family,
Lived in a "shotgun shack,"
That you could see straight through,
From front to back!
Yes, life in "'coal country,"
Was really bad,
But, being a miner,
Was the only choice Jake had!
Like his father and grandfather before,
Jake eked out a living,
That was meager and poor.
In the coal camp,
Entertainment was almost nil.
However, Jake was known to frequent,
His moonshine still.
And on Saturday evenings,
He and Sally would prance,
To the tune of a fiddle,
At the local barn dance!
Jake's life was a vicious circle,
Without an end,
But, that was about to change,
Suddenly,my Friend!
You see, the local news,
Had quickly spread around,
That a "hellfire and brimstone," preacher,
Had just come to town!
Jake tried not to seem interested,
In front of his wife,
But, he was sure getting tired,
Of their rowdy life!
You see, from childhood,
Jake had been raised "the right way,"
But, in his early teens,
He had steadily gone astray.
He started working in the mine
When he was only fifteen,
And he grew up fast,
Wild, and mean.
At the age of seventeen,
And still only a kid,
He and Sally got married,
Like most folks back then did!
His and Sally's marriage,
Consisted of arguing and fussing,
And Jake's remedy for that,
Was drinking and cussing!
One evening Jake come home
And found a note on the door,
Saying, "Jake, I love you,"
"But, I can't take it any morel"
"That's why we're leaving,"
"Hopefully, for just a few days,"
"Until you finally decide,"
"To change your ways!"
"You know Momma's place,"
"Is easily found!"
" But, if you don't plan on changing,"
"Don't bother to come around!"
Jake said, "I guess I'll show her."
"I will go down,"
"To that little saloon,"
"At the edge of town!"
As he was dressing up,
In his best attire,
He said, "I think I'll get some liquor,
To "quench this fire!"
But, on the way to the saloon,
He heard church bells ringing,
And the Summer night air,
Was filled with beautiful singing!
"Are You Washed In The Blood,"
Was the song he heard,
And immediately,
His soul was stirred!
Then, Jake felt a familiar longing,
Down deep inside!
'Twas a feeling he thought,
Long ago had died.
Old satan whispered,
"What are we stopping here for?"
But, he was too late,
Jake was through the door!
He didn't even slow down,
As toward the altar he ran!
And when he got through praying,
He was a changed man!
Then, when he finally,
Opened his eyes,
Jake was in,
For a big surprise!
For there praying,
By his side,
Were his seven children,
And his sweet little bride!
Yes, their marriage was mended,
And folks gladly say,
"They acted like love birds,"
"As they walked away!"
The last I heard tell of them,
He was still working in the mine,
From before the crack of dawn,
'Til the sun didn't shine!
But, old Jake not only digs,
And shovels coal,
He tells everybody he sees,
How Jesus can save your soul!

AT JESUS' FEET
By Robert F. Dotson ©2018
There is a place,
Where weary pilgrims meet!
By God's grace,
'Tis at Jesus' feet!
This is the place,
We can go,
When our pace,
Is getting slow.
When cares of life,
Have got us down,
And toil and strife,
Cause us to frown,
Before our eyes stray,
From the eternal goal.
We must say,
"Take courage, my soul!"
"God does not slumber,"
"Nor does He sleep!"
"His blood washed number,"
"He shall keep!"
Though satan's snares,
May be well laid.
Many prayers,
Have been prayed!
And God is near,
With His arms open wide!
Have no fear,
There's safety inside!
Our hearts shall swell,
For the fellowship is sweet,
Yes, all is well,
At Jesus' feet!

THE TWO ROADS!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
As the weary traveler came to the crossroads,
It was growing late.
Soon, he must make the decision,
That would ultimately decide his fate.
The road to the left was well traveled,
Easily accessible, broad, and wide.
The road to the right was straight and narrow,
And not readily espied.
He could see on both sides of the broad road,
Beautiful flashing neon signs.
One could use his own volition in traveling.
There were no dividing lines.
Each traveler could do as he wished,
Though it made no reason or rhyme.
The intention of the broad road travelers,
Was strictly to have a good time.
The road to the right was quite straight,
And often resembled a path.
Its travelers were so different,
They often incurred the world's wrath.
The road to the left gets wider,
As one travels along life's way.
“Come as you are and do your own thing,”
Is the slogan of the day.
On the trail of the Straight and Narrow,
Travel only a chosen few.
Only a minority are willing,
To do what the Bible says to do.
Although the broad road is easy to enter,
There is many a winding bend.
Old Satan has a way of obscuring,
The impending destruction at the end.
As folks travel on the narrow road,
Trouble may drive them to their knees,
For it is an unselfish and humble trip,
As they strive their Lord to please.
But, it will definitely be worth the effort,
Once they reach their heavenly goal!
Toils of life will then seem as nothing,
In that Homeland of the Soul!
Suddenly, as the night is fast approaching,
The traveler must decide.
Will he choose the Straight and Narrow Way,
Or will he take the road so wide?
His decision is so critical,
For he has so much to lose.
At the moment of his birth,
He was given the right to choose.
With this realization,
The weary traveler kneels down to pray,
And God is there to guide him,
To the Straight and Narrow way!

A father's influence is very important in a child's life. Even so the influence of God, our Heavenly Father, is needed more. I am so glad He adopted me as His own!
MY FATHER'S LOVE!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
I had heard the words amazing grace.
But, I didn't full understand,
Until I saw my Heavenly Father's face,
And felt His tender hand!
The Mighty Maker of the sun,
The moon, and stars above,
Has graciously adopted me as His son.
I have known my Father's love!
Each new day brings blessings by the score.
I cannot count them all!
I don't know how I lived before,
I could on His dear name call.
I could never ever explain,
This wonderful feeling in my heart.
My soul now sings the sweet refrain,
My God, how great Thou art!
When mountains rise in front of me,
And threaten to block my way,
My Savior hears my earnest plea!
He answers when I pray!
Although rough may be the road I trod,
Toward my heavenly goal,
I will place my faith and trust in God!
He cares for my soul!

GOD CARES FOR HIS OWN!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2018
In the Holy Bible I read,
Where the psalmist David said,
“I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken,”
“Or his seed begging bread!”
Friend, I’ve found this to be the truth,
For I’ve observed from my youth,
Until the present time,
That since God made us His own,
We’ve never been left alone,
As we struggle life’s mountains to climb!
Even though we’re growing old and gray,
God provides for us each day,
From Heaven’s bountiful store!
Our steps are getting slow,
But, we surely know,
God loves us the same as before!
Soon, Heaven’s gates will swing open wide,
And we shall step inside,
We who have been blood-bought!
There will be nor more pain!
With Christ we shall reign!
Oh, what a comforting thought!

GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
On Calvary, the ring of the hammer driving nails,
Mixed with Jesus’ follower’s heart wrenching wails,
As They cried for the most caring Man they ever knew.
For even as he hung on the cross bleeding and dying,
Those present heard Him crying,
“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Oh, what manner of love did God bestow,
When He sent Jesus here below,
To take upon Himself the sins of all mankind.
No other love can ever compare,
With what was seen there.
No greater compassion could we ever find!
“Twas God’s love in action indeed,
When Jesus ransomed Adam’s seed,
Bridging the chasm between God and man!
Thereafter, when we call upon His name,
Our lives are never the same,
For nothing can change a heart like salvation can!

SO, YOU WANT TO BE A PREACHER?
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
So you want to be a preacher, Son?
You had better think it o'er.
Remember, you will be a servant for life,
That and nothing more.
You need to forget all of the glamour stories,
You have ever heard,
And have an enormous appetite,
For praying and reading God's word!
You must be very certain,
You're not just hearing "Momma's call."
Have you "prayed through" about it,
And promised God your all?
Do you love God's children,
Every one of them the same?
Can you "take the heat,"
If it be for Jesus' name?
Can you suffer persecution,
If it be for the gospel's sake?
Will God have the final word,
In every decision you make?
Have you decided in your heart,
Not my will, but Thine be done?
Will every part of your life,
Be dedicated to God's Son?
Do you possess a spirit,
That is humble and meek,
And yet have God's boldness,
When it is time to speak?
Are you seeking God's will,
While searching for a wife?
Remember, she must be someone,
Who lives a holy life.
If she doesn't love God,
To the degree you do,
She will not be a help,
But, a hindrance to you.
Is being an evangelist,
Somewhere in your plan?
If so, you will have to be,
A very special man.
For you must swiftly,
And unselfishly leave your all,
And travel across the land,
To answer God's call.
Do you aspire to be a pastor?
It takes a rare breed.
You must live by faith,
And trust God for you every need!
Do you desire to be the under shepherd,
Over God's sheep?
If so, there will be many nights,
When you won't get much sleep.
You may have to get up in the morning,
At two a.m. or even three,
When some dear saint says,
"Pastor, I need you to pray for me!
But, if there are no questions in your heart,,
You have passed the test!
So, go forth into God's harvest,
And give to Him your very best!
=======================================
The following poem is one of my "dream" poems!
I hope you will kick back and relax and enjoy my imagination! Nature is a beautiful sight!
A STROLL THROUGH THE WOODS
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
In my mind's eye,
I see the fog like a shroud of lace,
Covering the river's face.
The sun above,
Like a glowing ball of fire,
In the heavens,
Climbs higher and higher!
The Eastern sky is beautiful,
With God's adorning!
It sure is a lovely morning!
Though I might expect,
This to be like any other day,
Time proves it to be unique,
In its own way!
In the woods,
Tiny creatures stir,
Amongst the trees,
Pine, oak, beech, and fir!
A sleepy-eyed horned owl,
A creature of the night,
Blinks its eyes as if to say,
"Who turned on the light?"
Chipmunks hurry and scurry,
Here and there,
As the cawing of a flock of crows,
Fills the air!
A spider's web gilded with dew,
Catches my eye.
'Tis a trap for some unwitting fly!
Nearby, an army of ants,
Get their exercise,
Moving a load,
Many times their size!
Busy bees work,
Hour after hour,
Extracting nectar,
From the heart of a flower!
I hear the sound,
Of a babbling brook,
And I stroll over,
Just to take a look!
I am amazed,
At its being so clear!
On the bank I see,
The footprints of a deer!
I gaze off to my right,
A hundred feet or so,
And see a baby fawn,
A buck, and a doe!
As I cherish in my mind,
This beautiful scene,
In these surroundings,
So calm and serene,
I become as excited,
As a young boy,
Knowing God gave me,
This moment to enjoy!

HEAVEN TO ME!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
My life here on earth,
Often is troubled.
In desperation,
I fall to my knees.
Then, Jesus comes to me,
And my joy is doubled,
When He brings a little taste,
Of Heaven to me!
In the clear morning air,
I can hear singing,
And my heart beats with rapture,
As I hurry along!
For just up ahead,
The bells of Heaven are ringing,
And saints from all the ages,
Sing a welcoming song!
Heaven to me!
Heaven to me!
Just to behold the face of Jesus,
Would be heaven to me!
Yes, I may wonder at the many,
Sights that I see.
But, just to behold the face of Jesus,
Will be heaven to me!

SMILE, YOU'RE THE KING'S KID!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Has old man trouble got you down,
Changing your smile into a frown?
Well, I've got good news for you my friend!
God loves and cares for you!
So, He will come to your rescue,
And your worries will come to an untimely end!
Is that you with your head bowed low,
Having those feelings of woe,
With nothing but the blues to sing?
Come on and lift your head up high!
You don't have to be shy,
For you are a child of the Heavenly King!
God is aware of your plight.
You are precious in His sight!
His Son, Jesus gave His live for you!
So, when life's mountains seem high,
He will draw nigh,
And see you safely through!

The following poem is from a collection of poems God inspired me to write!
I call them Comfort poems!
CAST YOUR CARES ON HIM
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
I can't see the burdens you carry,
When I greet you each day.
I haven't seen the tears you cried,
Along life's rugged way.
I don't know how many nights,
You have felt alone and blue,
When you longed within your heart,
For someone to comfort you.
But, I too have had some heartaches.
Of trouble I've had my share.
And I've experienced lonely moments,
When nobody seemed to care.
But, since I met the Master,
When things get sad and grim,
I just whisper His precious name,
As I share my thoughts with Him!

A DAY OF RECKONING
By Robert F. Dotson © 2018
The coming of the Lord,
Is about to take place!
Then, every member of Adam’s race,
Shall behold His wonderful face!
The wicked will be fearful,
On that fateful day.
To the rocks in the mountains,
They will loudly pray.
“Fall on us,” they will say.
But, there will be no hiding.
For each person will stand,
With the evidence of their life’s deeds,
There in their hands.
Jesus will judge them,
With a judgment that is fair!
Heaven’s record books will be opened,
Displaying what’s written there.
Each soul will be examined.
And as Christ looks inside,
Will we be joyful?
Has His blood been applied?
Have we loved our enemies,
Just like our Sisters and Brothers?
Have we honored Christ above all others?
With a smile on His face,
Will Jesus say,”Well done?”
Or will we be banished,
By God’s precious Son?
For everyone’s sin,
The price has been paid!
So, we will be judged,
By the choices we have made.
Will we enter God’s Heaven,
Or be turned away?
What will be the outcome,
On that reckoning day?

DID I MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
By Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Friend, when we met along Life's way,
Did I 'Touch" you with something I did,
Or had to say?
Did I resemble the Man of Galilee?
Or when you looked did you see only me?
Did I have pity upon the poor,
And thus lend to the Lord,
Or did I see how much of Life's goods,
I could horde?
Did I help guide the blind man,
That was going astray,
Or did I wish he would hurry up,
And get out of my way?
Did I help strengthen the weakened knees,
And heed the Master's callin',
Or did I just do as I pleased,
Instead of lifting up the hands of the fallen?
Did I stretch forth my hand,
The hungry to feed,
Or were my eyes full of covetness and greed?
Did I visit the sick in the hospital,
Or in the nursing home,
Or did I leave them lying there,
Forsaken, sad, and alone?
Did I visit that one in prison,
With compassion in my heart,
Or was I much too busy,
The "Good News" to impart?
Did I tell someone how Jesus,
Could absolutely set them free,
Or was I too involved,
With just doing things for me?
Did I try to be the kind of friend,
That I'd want a friend to be,
Or did I think within my heart,
"I wonder what's in it for me?"
Did I faithfully stand with my Brother,
When nothing was going right?
Or did I turn and walk away and say,
"It's really not my fight!"
Did my life reflect the changes made,
When Jesus came into my heart,
Or did I "mimic" the world so much,
That you couldn't tell us apart?
Did I have a kind word to say,
To everyone I met,
Or was my attitude so "bland,"
That I'd be easy to forget?
Did I leave a good impression,
On those I met each day?
Lord when my time comes to go,
Will they miss me in any way?
Did I redeem the time,
Because these are evil days,
Or did I leave unfinished tasks,
And act in a careless way?
Did I treat everyone fairly,
That I contacted each day,
Or did I act selfishly,
And always had to have my way?
When I stand before my Lord and King,
Who shall judge the quick and the dead,
I'll be justly tried for my deeds,
And the idle words I have said!
So, help me Lord, to watch and pray,
And long for you to appear!
For I can tell by the "signs of the times,"
That your coming is drawing near!
I shall pass this way but once. Any good thing that I can do, therefore, or any kindness that I can show to any other human being, Let me do it now! Let me not defer it or neglect it! For I shall not pass this way again! Anonymous

THERE IS JOY IN KNOWING JESUS!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
Some folks spend a lifetime,
Seeking happiness it seems.
Yet, they find that elusive Utopia,
Only in their dreams.
Well friend, I have the answer,
For every man, woman, girl, and boy.
Jesus is the solution,
And the source of our real joy!
You see, happiness often depends,
Upon one's state of mind.
We spend endless hours.
But, it's impossible to find.
However, there's real joy in knowing Jesus,
As we travel along life's way!
He has promised to never leave us,
And to guide us every day!
When dark clouds hover overhead,
And the sun refuses to shine,
Jesus gives the calm assurance,
That everything will be just fine!
He's The Beautiful Rose of Sharon,
Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and End,
Our closest Companion,
And our dear and precious Friend!

THE CRIMSON TIDE
By Robert F. Dotson © 2018

THE EMPTY TOMB!
By Robert F. Dotson © 2018
The tomb is empty!
Oh, what a glorious sight!
The long night has ended,
With the first rays of light!
The crucifixion has passed,
With its sorrow and gloom!
Now hope springs eternal,
From the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
Our Lord conquered death!
He cried, “It is finished,”
With His dying breath!
Yes, Christ was the Victor,
O'er death's impending doom!
Now, we'll live forever,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty,
Bringing hope for tomorrow,
Beyond this world of sin,
Pain, and great sorrow!
Ah, we have our Lord's promise,
Though storm clouds may loom,
Our future is bright,
Because of the empty tomb!
The tomb is empty!
Let's go tell the story!
Christ has been caught up,
To His home in Glory!
He sent the Holy Ghost message,
To the upper room,
Signed, sealed, and delivered,
From that empty tomb!

OH, WHAT A FRIEND!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
When I am feeling alone and blue,
And my smile becomes a frown,
I turn to a Friend Who is tried and true!
He will never let me down!
My Friend Jesus knows my thoughts.
By Him even my actions are weighed.
Praise God my soul has been blood bought!
On Calvary's hill the price He paid!
Although I may not always understand,
Why some things must be,
I place my life in His strong hands,
Knowing He will care for me!
I need not fear what man can do,
For Jesus is my Shield against all foes!
He promised He would see me through,
Until the curtain of time shall close!
I have never had a Friend before,
Who is so loving, kind, and good!
His love will last forevermore!
He promised me it would!
Some day my tent down here I shall fold,
And when it is time for this pilgrim to go,
Then I shall walk on streets of gold,
In a garment as white as snow!
Ah, one this one thing I can depend,
I shall not walk alone,
For hand in hand with Jesus my Friend,
I'll be heading toward God's throne!

A DREAM COME TRUE!
Robert F. Dotson © 2018
'Twas getting late afternoon,
And Joe knew it would be milking time soon,
For coming close he could hear the cowbells ring!
He could hear the church bells chime,
